The Disinherited/ The Modala Imperative link?

Random question. I was browsing Memory-Beta and in the article for The Disinherited there is a section called "Related Stories" and The Modala Imperative is listed. What's the link between those two stories?

Well, the page for The Disinherited says that it contains a reference to Beta Damoron V, which is the Federation's name for the planet called Modala by its natives in Imperative. I searched the text on Amazon, and there are a couple of references to Kirk and Chekov getting caught in a revolution on Beta Damoron V, as shown in TMI.

Well, they have the same creative team. The Disinherited was a collaboration of Peter David, Michael Jan Friedman, and Bob Greenberger. Modala was a TOS/TNG crossover miniseries with Friedman writing the TOS part and David writing the TNG part (inverting their regular series assignments), with Greenberger editing. Since it came out the following year, it was probably written around the same time as the comics or a bit later.

I believe David's The Rift also makes a passing reference to The Early Voyages. Again unsurprising given that David had a foot in both prose and comics at the time.

This is pretty impressive on David's part given The Rift came out in 1991 and Early Voyages #1 in 1997.

David's novel does reference DC Fontana's Pike novel, Vulcan's Glory. I don't remember any comics references in it.

My fun fact: I got to interview Bob Greenberger in his office at DC Comics, NYC, in January 1992. On his noticeboard was pinned the (then-) advance cover slick of "The Disinherited", not yet seen by fans. Exciting!

Cool, I didn't know that about Burning Dreams. Don't say what the reference is, I'm going to be reading it soon, so I'll try to see if I can find it without knowing what it is.
