Fascination - the one with the Bajoran Gratitude Festival and Lwaxana Troi's condition cause out of the ordinary romantic parings

Lwaxana finds Odo in his security office and embraces him and asks to catch up in private.

Odo to his security officer - "come back in 5 minutes"

What the hell? I clicked on this and the first poster I saw was Red Ranger  Then saw FSM and double oh five.... :cardie:

I see there are several newbies here. Yeah, Odo had some great guips over the years.

Apparently, this was a very old thread, revived only recently.

Yeah. one of the posters who made many of the posts on the first page had been deceased for some years now, and the other two I mentioned were banned a while back.

I am quoting from memory so it may not be word-perfect:

"I don't like mobs, if you need one to get what you want, it's not worth getting."

Or Rom is just socially awkward.

Well, some things Rom does are really hard to defend. Like when he wanted Leeta to sign a paper to agree to be completely dispossessed and proposed to PAY her for that!! That's not social awkwardness that downright stupidity!!!

Full quote is "Rom's an idiot - he couldn't fix a straw if it were bent!"

And also one of the most incredible failures of observation Odo has EVER made.

I think of that as a "world under construction" gaffe. Rom's character was not really developed yet, and possibly the writers had no plans to develop him.

It's a little like the fact that we never see Section 31 on any show before DS9, but they pop up right and left in the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th centuries alike afterward.

Or, for followers of another fandom, how Harry Potter was at Hogwarts first two years and never noticed that most of the student body up and leaves the castle every few weeks.

I like the truisms that Odo says with a straight face. Like at one time he says: "I've noticed that you humanoids/solids(?) when it comes to doing what's best for you, you don't." or something like that.:guffaw:

No, that's the culture clash between Ferengi and Bajor. He had the same deal with Nog's mother - a 5 year contract. Leeta rejecting it was his continuing "I need to understand that other cultures do things differently - perhaps even better - than mine" journey.

It's difficult to defend AS A CONCEPT. Rom holding it is not difficult to defend because that's the fucked-up culture he was raised in. What would be difficult to defend is if he never moved past it.

Another good one... "The one thing I've learned about humanoids is that in extreme situations even the best of you are capable of doing terrible things."

"I'm still not playing cards with you."
The Ascent

A lot of Odo's great lines are great because of Rene's delivery.

As these old threads are usually closed down after revival I'll get mine in quick before the hammer comes down.

During Trials & Tribblelations I always enjoy just how withering Odo manages to be with..
"Another glorious chapter of Klingon history. Tell me, do they still sing songs of the great tribble hunt?"
