They've announced a new book on Star Wars.com and This Week in Star Wars today, The Odyssey of Star Wars: An Epic Poem by Jack Mitchell. I didn't watch This Week in Star Wars, but according to the story on Star Wars.com Mitchell is a Standford educated poet, and the book will retell the story of the saga from Rogue One through Return of the Jedi in the style of epic poems like The Iliad and The Odyssey.

Most books are going to trade paperbacks these days, so this is pretty much standard practice at this point. Even at $11.99 it's still cheaper than most DVDs, and for most people will probably take longer, so it's not that bad when it comes to money vs entertainment value.
I'm glad I'm not really into ebooks. If I want an old Star Wars novel, I can buy pretty much any of them used for cheaper then the ebook price. Not so much comics, those get expensive when they're OOP, but I've yet to find a SW novel that got really expensive as it got older.
That's not unique to Star Wars books, it's true of pretty much all books. For me the convivence outweighs the cheapness of used books. With paper books, I still prefer to get them new if they're still in print. I know used books are cheaper, but they tend to not always be in the greatest shape, and I'm pretty picky about the condition of my books. And I know it's silly, but I get a little weirded out not knowing who's been reading a book before me. I have the same problem with library books. I'll go the used or library route if it's the only way, but it's usually a last resort.
I can get that. It doesn't bother me, but I can see why it would bother some people. Pre-pandemic I went to the local public library's monthly sale of donated books/dvds/etc, so I have a lot of used books I got cheaply, and I'm just used to that.
Limited room for media has made me go primarily digital. Collecting Making of and Art books for Star Wars is about it for me these days. With Spotify, haven't bought music in awhile and with 4K streaming, both in services and purchases, I have streamlined our physical movie collection considerably (even if I am now purchasing all of the Star Wars movies again... in 4K blu-ray... they're frikkin gorgeous!). I do buy Star Wars comic eBooks, primarily omnibus. I can and do also borrow ebooks from the library.
Decided to pick up the lightsaber book today. I think it might be a useful reference. I've always enjoyed the customization aspect.
I finished up the Rogue One novelization last night. I really enjoyed, my memory of the movie is a little fuzzy, but it did seem to have quite a few scenes I don't think were in the movie. It also really dove deep into the characters, which was nice.
Titan is going to be releasing Star Wars: Insider The Fiction Collection, a new anthology of stories originally published in the Star Wars Insider magazine and artwork that goes along with them. Io9's story announcing the anthology also features an excerpt from the Dash Rendar story, And Leebo Makes Three by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bonhoff, and The Brothers Hidebrant's artwork that goes with it.
I’m a little lost as to what you’re talking about here. The simon & schuster sale hasn’t even happened yet. I am not aware of any change with respect to the Star Trek publishing rights themselves.
Yeah, nothing is changing with the Star Trek books themselves, Simon & Schuster will still be publishing them, it's just that it'll be owned by Penguin Radom House now.
So I'm working my way through Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good. I've loved these Thrawn novels, but this latest trilogy has been a lot of fun so far. I like that Thrawn can comfortably be the hero, as well as the protagonist, without it glorifying the Empire in these prequel stories. They really do read like Sherlock Holmes adventures set in Chiss space. And learning more about proper Chiss society is fun. I haven't finished this second novel yet, that will be a project for after work tomorrow. But after a slow start, I find myself unwilling to put it down for anything save sleep, which now sadly calls. Still, I'm very much looking forward to these last 50 pages or so and I thought I saw the third book releases later this year. Good times ahead. I enjoyed the first High Republic novel well enough, but I think I prefer these overall. Hopefully later High Republic stories feel less like disjointed episodes and more like proper stories. But Thrawn scratches my Star Wars itch perfectly well for now.

Read the new Thrawn. It's one of the better ones in the series but the story still isn't that exciting. I think the issue is that I barely remember the first 3 so I don't really know what it's building to. The Grask threat perhaps? if so I completely forgot how that ends. Another issue I have from these books is that Thrawn seems like a genuinely nice guy. it's had to believe he would side with the Empire and help kill poor rebels. I know he had a reason but I don't know if he would go that far.
I never got that impression. He's an opportunist, when it suits him to be nice he'll be nice, when it suits him to be a jerk he'll be a jerk. He only sided with the Empire because they were the strongest force in the galaxy (at the time), which was better for his goals.
