Fans deserve nothing. It's a product. If it doesn't appeal don't watch. Fans will still have their preferred show, art, fiction and communities to chat about their franchise. No installment, good, bad, or otherwise, will ever take that away.

And I've been a fan since I was 6 watching TOS. So, please pause the gatekeeping. What i am watching is a franchise that espouses an egalitarian future yet insists upon a conservative point of view of the franchise, holding on to the past rather than being willing to look at the future. It is quite funny that these two things occur, showcasing that despite a franchise that gave us IDIC the phrase has no meaning when fans are talking with each other. It's sad to me that instead of discussing aspects of the franchise it is simply tribalism, holding on to the past, insisting that the past was better, and no value can come from the present.

Terms like "destruction" and "ruined" are thrown about, while carrying little meaning because the Star Trek that I grew up with and find the most enjoyment with this exists in TOS. And nothing, no installment, no new series, will ever take that away from any fan.

Every Star Trek is someone's first Star Trek and new fans discovering the franchise is a good thing! This entitled "I'm better than you" attitude is ridiculous, how long someone's been a fan is completely irrelevant and long time fans absolutely don't deserve to be catered too.
People who only watched Picard or Lower Decks and consider themselves fans are just as important as people who have been watching since 1966.

 

Just because someone decided not to join an internet forum, or only started watching Star Trek on a certain date has no bearing on them being better fans or not.

I think there's about 3 people that joined trekbbs in 1999, and I for one wasn't introduced to Star Trek until September 1990 so I certainly wouldn't fit in the "True fan" category. I haven't even watched every TOS episode

To me, Data looked good enough for me to suspend my disbelief. I found when you-know-who showed up at the end of Season 2 of The Mandalorian it strayed too far into the uncanny valley, but considering Brent Spiner is older and has aged appropriately, they did the best they could. He didn't exactly appear a lot as well, so all in all the thing that seems to be an issue for so many is something I found unintrusive. If that's a word. English teacher. I should know.

 

He looked fine enough to get the point across that this is a younger version of Data than current Spiner could play. That's all it needed to achieve. Could it have been done better? Probably. The MCU does it all the time. But was it necessary that it was done better? No, I think not. We knew what it represented and that's all that matters.
