The first part is Kamin's melody from Inner Light, the second part is in the TNG theme itself, and the end is a combination of Kamin's melody and another part of the TNG theme.

There's actually a little bit more to it than even that. But you have to have an ear for it, like Jeff Russo presumably does. I'll elaborate once I've completely pieced all of the pieces together. It's actually quite brilliant once you try to reverse-engineer it.

But it sounds horrible without exactly the right instruments. I'm editing it together even as we speak. The main body is of theme is actually from Kamin's son, Batai. Not Kamin himself.

When I can demonstrate it side-by-side, I'll post it on YouTube, so people can see. Or rather, hear. It's going to take some time to get it just right. But I think I'm on the right track to nailing it down beat-by-beat.

EDIT: I've already cracked the first few bars already. The second set of bars, I know where he got it from, it's just trying to fine-tune it to match. This is going to take a while but, when I finally post it, it's going to blow people's minds away. At least the minds of those who aren't completely jaded. I won't be able to do anything about those people.

Has the piece of music from The Inner Light that the Picard theme is based on (i.e. the piece played by Batai) ever been made commercially available? It’s called Lullaby #2 in the PIC end credits, but the 2011 La-La Land Records release of the OST only has Lullaby #1 and Lullaby #1A listed. It’s only barely noticeable in the episode itself as there’s dialogue over it. It’s almost note for note the same though.

Interesting that the PIC credit for the music only started appearing a few episodes in, wonder why that was?

Not to my knowledge. At least I can't find a clean version of it on YouTube, anyway.

So when I post the results of what I'm piecing together, on a YouTube video, you're going to be stuck with Picard and his "wife" having the same exact exchange a bunch of times, and chopped up.

EDIT: It's better this way, unfortunately. Then I won't have people saying, "That wasn't in the episode!" I'll have direct evidence it was. There will be even less dispute over everything I'm finding, when they see the music I'm putting together laid on top of the actual Picard theme.

Yes, of course, I got confused cause Batai is also his best friend XD
It's beautiful that his son's (both in the story and in real life) melody became the Picard Theme.

The chasing light is obnoxious. But it’s a great musical rendition.

I don't know if this was discussed here already, but there's an interesting detail about PIC I have been wondering about ever since the character's Name "Raffi Musiker" was first announced. Her surname "Musiker" means literally "musician" in german. I wonder if this is is a pure coincidence (which I can't really imagine) or if that was done on purpose, but then again the question is why they chose that name. Raffi isn't related at all to music in the show, which then would be a funny easter egg. I thought that maybe the lore wants her to be of german origin like Keyla Detmer in DIS, who, as I read somewhere, hails officially from the German city Düsseldorf. But then I wonder why they would choose the name "Musiker" for that purpose. Like I said, it's indeed a german word, but I don't think it's very common as a german surname, at least I don't think I ever met or even read about someone with that name. Do we maybe have any official statement or something that explains the choice of the name?

Michelle Hurd's mother is German-American. I guess Michelle chose Musiker as a last name in honor of her partial German ancestry?

Either that, or it's just Chabon's tendency for little embellishments that mean nothing, e.g. the fact that the android that Rios' captain murdered was called Beautiful Flower, but that was of no significance.

Ah, never knew, thanks for the information. Doesn't seem familiar to me though that actors or actresses have influence on such things as the names of their characters. I'm not so much into "behind the screen" issues, so is that usual? Would be a reasonable explanation in any case.

I don't know about Hurd and Raffi, but iirc one of Chabon's instagram answer sessions told us that he came up with a list of two syllable Spanish surnames for Rios and then asked Cabrera to pick the one he liked best, so the implication of that is that the actors were given at least some input to their character names.

There is also the odd trivia of Raffi Musiker being just "R...iker" with the addition of some letters in between. That perhaps her name was intended to subconsciously remind the viewers of Picard's relationship with his Number One and that she was a continuation of that. If there's any credence to this, then Musiker was probably chosen by Chabon specificaly because of the "iker" ending and not with any input from Hurd.

My guess is that John de Lancie "crashes the party" mid-panel.
