Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

4:3? That's fucking stupid.

Do you think that directors such as Wes Anderson, Jennifer Kent, Robert Eggers, David Lowery or Paul Schrader are "fucking stupid," too? Because they all play around with 4:3 (or aspect ratios similar to 4:3, like 1.19:1) quite a bit. 4:3 is the closest to the 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio in which Snyder originally shot the film, hence it is presented on HBO Max in that ratio.

People really like to bag on Snyder for the tiniest bullshit that wouldn't ever cross their mind when critiquing another director.

And done.

MUCH better than the theatrical cut. As many have said the longer runtime and the cut of Whedon's material gave the movie enough time to build up the "lesser" characters like Cyborg and Flash, both of which benefited massively from Snyder's cut. The movie as a whole works better now and has been "corrected" in many places and the inclusion of Darkseid works, even if he feels a bit two dimensional in the movie.

The final battle, which was completely redone is also much more intense and has some sequences that are simply outstanding, chief amongst them Barry Allen giving it all to turn back time a few moments and reverse the loss. Him going full in, beyond lightspeed was just awesome to watch and made me even like the costume ;)

The epilogue though kinda fell flat for me when it comes to the movie as a whole because it feels kinda tacked on for the sake of it. Sure it sets up a sequel but it doesn't happen organically within the movie it feels, at least to me. The conversation between Batman and Joker though was brilliant.

Quick question - what's the status on JL sequels, did WB axe these or are they still planned? After the Snyder Cut i kinda want to see the whole story play out with Lois dying, Superman being turned into Darkseids henchman and the heroes fighting a desperate guerilla battle to still turn the tide.

As near as anyone knows, they're dead (and Snyder seems to believe so, as well, from interviews that were published this past week). Flashpoint is still theoretically happening, but while that was originally going to play into the post-Justice League continuity, it looks more like it's going to be its own--extremely weird, but its own--thing, and of course Batfleck is over and done with, with Robert Pattinson's The Batman being the next entry in that line, and apparently a JJ Abrams-produced, Ta-Nehisi Coates-written take on Superman also in the pipeline.

If I had to hazard a guess, Snyder included all of the sequel hooks into this cut because he figured, "Fuck it, there won't be another movie, might as well throw everything we shot in there just for shits and giggles, otherwise it would never see the light of day." Given that the Knightmare epilogue is the only new scene that they shot for the release of the Snyder Cut, I think the intent there was to give a hint of what Snyder might like to do if further movies were ever to happen. But I really heavily doubt we'll ever see a Justice League 2 in this continuity and I doubt that Aquaman 2 or Wonder Woman 3 are going to really be influenced in any way by the Snyder Cut.

(I know that was a really mangled paragraph, I apologize. Pain medications make it hell to write coherent sentences sometimes.)

They’re using the Flashpoint movie to reset everything. Giving us a new Batman and possibly replacing Superman with Supergirl

WB had any sense they would allow the Justice League story to be finished on HBO Max.

WB sadly have little sense.

It felt like the movie should of ended with Clark opening up his coat, displaying his S. The Knightmare scene felt like a post mid credit scene and the Bruce/Martian Hunter could of been an end credits scene. I assume Zack didn't want to copy Marvel though in what they do.

That might be too costly for them. :)
So I just rewatched it and there’s one thing that confuses me. So Darkseid invaded Earth in the past to get the equation but was defeated and left the mother boxes behind. He then forgot where Earth was which explains the conversation he had with Steppenwolf about him re finding it but shouldn’t the discovery of the mother boxes already tell him that? Are there other boxes on other planets they just misplaced?

True. Snyder did not bend to fit the agendas of some holding on to long-discarded notions of fictional characters, so he "has" to be evil. Childish in the extreme.

Agreed; the entire voyage of the Snyder Cut has been the most excitement generated by any DC property outside of Snyder-controlled DCEU productions, and that includes any forthcoming DC series on HBOMax.

WB sadly have little sense.

If some of their announced projects are ever released, that would prove your statement to be true.

This is one of the bigger logic gaps in ZSJL and made me think to myself, "Come the fuck on, Terrio." Like, we're supposed to believe that out of fifty thousand conquered planets, no one bothered to write a Post-It note that read, "Reminder: Got our asses totally chumped by the Amazons and Atlanteans on Earth, mother boxes are there, pick up milk on the way home?" No one in Darkseid's army keeps a mission log?

To be fair it’s this particular Earth in the infinite multiverse. They could know it’s Earth but didn’t know what universe this Earth belonged to.
That’s why we need this New Gods movie. To fill in these gaps.

I thought this too, but the mentions of the "multiverse" made me think that they didn't know which version of Earth this had happened on. I guess all Earths look alike.

Flashpoint is already filming. So it took a long time but it’s definitely happening.

Regardless of what Snyder’s own intentions were of using the phrases - Multiverse and Alternative Timelines - it means the Flash movie could directly or indirectly references the events of Snyder’s Justice League and that dark future.

Just a crazy idea...

(Hypothetically)

If there's a Blu Ray release in 16:9, would you buy it even if your ongoing HBO subscription meant that you could watch Snyder's Justice League in 4:3 whenever you want... Would you buy it?

If you won't, there will be a million nerds who will.

;)

Otherwise...

Synders dad, or last living uncle is yelling at Zack about the black %ucking lines at the top and bottom of all the movies which Zack makes.

"I bought this TV in 1966, and it still works, so I'm keeping it."

Everyone who has ever worked for Snyder has basically said that they'd take a bullet for him, and I can't help but admire how wildly enthusiastic he is about his work. Not everything he touches turns to gold--like I've said earlier, Sucker Punch is unforgivable and I'm very cool on 300 (though I've come around on it a bit), and there are some over-indulgent aspects of Beavis and ZSJL that could stand to be toned down--but the guy absolutely loves doing what he does. I have to respect that.
