It still makes me sad that Shatner and Nimoy were estranged when Nimoy died?

Reading through this thread made me think of that scene in "The Deadly Years", where Spock goes to Kirk's quarters to inform him of the decision of the competency hearing.

In a fit of anger, the elderly Kirk musters enough energy to lash out at the ageing Spock.

Kirk to Spock: "You traitorous, disloyal, you stab me in the back the first chance you get? Spock. Get out. I never want to have to look at you again."

It was a sad moment between those two characters.

The imagery of that scene is what came to mind when I was reading through this thread. I guess in the real world, the roles were reverse between Nimoy and Shatner.

I don't know, maybe Nimoy did have a real gripe against Shatner. Or, as another poster mentioned, a declining cognitive capability may have affected Nimoy's perception of reality. Or it may have been a combination of both, the decline may have just accelerated a gripe Nimoy had against Shatner.

Whatever the case, it is sad.

 

With Jeri Ryan a regular on Picard and Kate Mulgrew a regular on the forthcoming animated series Prodigy, someone in charge must be a fan of Voyager—or at least sensed fan interest in its characters.

(I’m not a big Voyager fan, but haven’t seen it in years.)

 

My favorite real-life duo in that capacity is the Supernatural brothers. These dudes seriously like each other. Its like they are playing themselves most of the time from what I can tell.

Also as I posted earlier, Roberto Orci, writer on the Kelvin movies, in the comments here (just text search boborci) outright claims in https://trekmovie.com/2016/03/25/review-leonard-my-fifty-year-friendship-with-a-remarkable-man/ that the documentary thing is not the reason Leonard turned on Bill, but he then declines to clarify what it was that did cause the rift, but implies that he knows.

 

He also hosts a show called "The UnXplained"... he did two seasons of "Better Late Than Never" where he traveled the world with George Foreman, Terry Bradshaw and Fonzy, and there is an upcoming old-man buddy movie with him and Christopher Lloyd. The man is amazing, and we are lucky to still have him.

 

It makes me sad the cast as a whole weren't as close as they appeared onscreen. I'm not naive, they were just workmates and I've plenty of ex-workmates I hope I never see again, but when you see how the TNG cast appear to be still good friends two decades since they last shot a movie together it reminds me what a shame it is for the TOS cast.

But with that in mind, I never thought Nimoy and Shatner were blood-brothers so much as a good working team, good on set and good behind the scenes too so the estrangement may be more business related than I used to think.

 

I don't think the point is whether fans think Nimoy and Shatner were blood brothers. It's that Shatner himself thought he was Nimoy's blood brother, and Nimoy himself often said so like here, https://trekmovie.com/2009/05/04/exclusive-interview-with-leonard-nimoy/ , and then Shatner found out in the most horrific way possible that things weren't what he thought. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Although as mentioned earlier, it's unclear what role Nimoy's illness had on his mental state.

 

Nobody can really understand another person's way of thinking. We try to and fail every time. All we know is that Nimoy was annoyed at Shatner for showing some footage of himself in his documentary when he'd asked him not to! Maybe it was a spur of the moment falling out or a long thought out grudge which because of his impaired mental state became a lot worse than it was! Or he simply didn't want Shatner to see him in his condition for both of their sakes? My friend who died in 2006 asked me not to visit him in hospital because of his deteriorating physical condition and later on left instructions that I could visit his body after death but he would rather that I remembered him as he was, which I did!

My parents saw their parents in the funeral home after death. I don't think I want to do the same when the time comes. It's quite a morbid thing for me. They are already gone at that point. Better to remember them as they were.

 

I had the choice to see my Mother. Part of me will always think I should have even though I really didn’t want to. But most days I’m at peace with the decision. Most days...

 

One purpose of attending a wake and a funeral is that, by seeing them in the casket, and seeing the casket into the ground, your subconscious mind is satisfied as to where the deceased went.

If you don't have closure, something in the back of your mind might go on waiting for the deceased to show up again. Like maybe they keep showing up in your dreams, in which you forget they ever died. That's been the situation with my parents for decades now.

 

Honestly, this is how I prefer to remember Shatner and Nimoy's relationship:

Well I have had such dreams. Which a week later proved true to me! My friend died in 2006 and in 2013 I was dreaming of being in a black place, but I knew my friend was there and he guided me to a shining light where a little boy was sitting. This I knew was his grandson and I spoke to the shadows that I've met him. I considered it a dream until now four days later when I met that child, whom I didn't know existed till then with my friend's son in a shopping centre! Coincidence? Maybe and I think not!

I often dream of my deceased loved ones...I don’t think they are trying to contact me or anything, it’s just that I miss them. It’s the only way to still see them, so I’m ok with it.

 

I actually had a dream of Leonard Nimoy after he died in 2015. I'm not one of those Trekkies who pore over details of the TOS stars or anything (even this Nimoy/Shatner feud only reached my attention when Shatner was announcing it and websites repeating it on the front page) and I only saw Nimoy once in person, so it is rather surprising to me. I'm not religious, but an atheist (or maybe more accurately agnostic), but I do believe in the veracity of near death experiences and have had unsettling experiences where deceased people in dreams (not Nimoy) have said things in those dreams that ended up happening. But I'm not comfortable going into more detail on that now.

Anyway, back to Nimoy, he told me in the dream "You are a true Klingon warrior." To this day I'm trying to figure out what that means (I have no military experience or anything in my life that remotely correlates with the warlike Klingons). Oh well, I'll take the compliment anyway.

Shatner has seemed to try to portray himself as somewhat tech averse in the past (can't recall specifics, but it was a feeling I got), but this 90 year old man is smoothly using google, twitter, and was one of the first to switch to online webcast conventions during the pandemic, so the charade has slipped and he strikes me as more tech proficient than James Kirk himself honestly.

Didn't think it was cool for the article writer at all to try to pry into specifics of Shatner's personal life and marriage etc. And then writing about it afterwards. Not really her business, and Shatner's again showing he's a lot nicer than stories about him suggest because a lot of other Hollywood stars would have chewed her out for that (and rightfully so).
