Star trek Mystery show

Yes, an interesting way to look at the gritty underbelly of the Federation that we don't often see.

It might be, but I wouldn't root for it. I'm not that big a fan of detectives in general, even though I occasionally enjoy watching one.

I'd second the argument it would be nice to see some of the 'gritty underbelly' of this supposedly utopian Federation society, though.

But don't we see that with Picard?

Honestly, personally I'm not a fan of detective or crime/investigation fiction. I couldn't even get through the first Dresden Files book, so a Star Trek detective show would most likely be a hard "pass" for me.

I'd still rather see a show centred around a civilian colony.

That's a horrible place to start! I am talking classic detective fiction like Sherlock Homes, Hercule Poirot, Lord Peter Whimsey, Ms. Marple, Albert Campion, Rumpole of the Bailey, George/Dominic Felse, Cadfael, &c.

If you mean me. I haven't looked into all of the ones you mention, but the ones I have looked into I couldn't give a damn about, because I don't enjoy investigation stories and half of the time I wanted to shoot the main character in the face.

If you are referencing Star Trek: Picard then I have to make the disclaimer (for the 2nd time today, no less - not in this thread though) that I haven't seen that show yet :)

No worries dude! Hope I haven't spoiled anything.

Trek has had a few whodunnits, like "Suspicions" on TNG or "Ex Post Facto" on Voyager. They were okay at best, perhaps because the writers felt they needed to throw in a sci-fi element as part of the reveal. I imagine a mystery series would have the same issue, otherwise why have the show set in the future?

If I were really afraid of seeing spoilers, I wouldn't be reading on this board anymore, since you can always expect a random reference to stuff released more than a few months ago somewhere around here :) Just meant to indicate I can't follow up on that tangent, myself...

How about a Romulan mystery show with that magic gizmo Picards friend uses at Sojis sisters apartment? Every episode can be a minute long.
I don't think illegal Romulan tech would hold up in court, so maybe every episode opens with them knowing who did it but the next 45 mins are them trying to prove it in a more traditional way.

No worries. They just slap the culprit to the old Harry Mudd lie detector from TOS and ask a few yes or no questions.

"Are you guilty?" Case closed.
