Gene hated TWOK. If you're going to defend Gene, at least know what you're talking about and know where Gene Roddenberry stood with the TOS Movies.

Gene didn't like much past TMP.
TWOK is not Gene's vision. I am still waiting for an explanation as to how it is considered one of the best TOS films, if not the best Star Trek films.
Gene's Vision was best summed up by Zefram Cochrane in FC. Even Rick Berman knew what it was.

And not Gene's vision. If we can grant an exception in one instance then perhaps Gene's vision is not as all encompassing as presented. Perhaps there is room for other points of view and even adaptability?
TMP was the last, purest example of "Gene's Vision" before Season 1 of TNG.
How is it not Gene's vision? Just because he said he didn't care for it doesn't mean it's not his vision. Keep in mind that it was the follow-up to his film Star Trek The Motion Picture.

TVH was his favorite of the post-TMP movies. You know, the one with the "colorful metaphors".
