Flat Earth

Median, perhaps (if there are an odd number of people). Mean, no, unless you're sure the data follows a Gaussian distribution or is otherwise perfectly symmetrically distributed, and that in itself is a result, not a given.

If you had a population of four people with FancyQs of 80, 81, 82, 83, and 120, the mean is 89.2, the median 82.
There are four people, or 80% of the population, below the mean, and one person, or 20% of the population, above it. 50% are equal or above the median of 82, and 50% are equal or below it.
There's fundamental vagueness and ambiguity in what "the 50% mark" simply put means in colloquial speech in this context; such is not the basis for a precise mathematical definition. I agree with your point, but upthread I let the vagueness and ambiguity slide and interpreted it one way, whereas you interpreted it another.

I still maintain that they know the truth, they're just doing it to get attention. The adult equivalent of the teenager who dyes their hair parrot green and gets their bellybutton pierced.

There was a guy who shot himself into the sky on a rocket to prove the earth was flat and then it crashed and he died. However, someone who knew him said that the man never believed the earth was flat and was just saying it to get attention, and possibly money from flat earthers.

Eitherway, not a loss to humanity.

If Koko was around with his little list of people who never will be missed, Flat Earthers would be high on it. Along with Trump nazis, cancel cultists, and personal injury attorneys.

I kinda guessed that. He was industrious

What I never understood about that guy was his attempt came after all those kids & their parents were doing science projects with their GPS smart phones, where they'd mount it to a box, affixed to a helium balloon, & film the ascent.
I recall one video where the thing went up on a clear day, damn near to the stratosphere, before it popped. You could literally see space & the curvature of the Earth on that video iirc.

So this guy was not only dumber than a grade school kid, he was dangerously/fatally less industrious

Never underestimate the power of self denial....

People can believe in all sorts of nonsense

The Earth is Flat
The Moon landings where a hoax
etc..

All the evidence in the universe will likely not change their minds.

If the Earth is a flat disc, why can't we reach the edge and see over it?
If the Earth is a dome, why can't we reach the edge of it?

There you go being logical.
Maybe if we had better instruction in science and critical thinking in schools, people could manage to come to better conclusions on their own.

We can't reach the edge because of the NASA army guarding the ice wall.

And because every person who's ever flown a plane or driven a boat in the history of mankind is in on the conspiracy.

The other comment I've heard is "The Pacman effect" which seems to be where you go to one edge and are instantly teleported to the opposite end of the Earth - because that's just so much believable than the Earth being a globe:rolleyes:

A portal that just so happens to show you what is on the other side of this flat plane after all surely one would notice a change in the horizon if it didn't..

We should try to infiltrate Flat Earth Society and plant funny theories there.

The Earth is not only flat, it's infinitely repeating!!! So every time you go 'Around' the Earth you've arrived at a different identical version of your home and another you has replaced you in yours!

Oooh that would actually make for an interesting story.

Man travels around the world back home finds himself there already, does it again finds 2 of him and it just keeps multiplying due to cascading parallel dimensions
