First character images from Prodigy released on Twitter

I'm kind of disappointed because I thought that since it was for kids it would be about starfleet academy (which I really wanted to know the inner workings of), but at the same time i couldn't care less because at least it's on a network I actually have access to  I'll save my judgement for when I watch it.
Starfleet Academy is a University level institution. Kid might be a stretch. ;)

I assume the reason behind Janeway being there will explained in the show. Truth be told would their ship even be powerful enough to sustain a hologram that long? (assuming the hologram is sentient a la The Doctor)

Er, yes, because Voyager had working holodecks throughout the seven years it was stuck in the Delta Quadrant and they worked just fine.

They also keep calling her Captain, not Admiral in the materials, so unless this is set between VOY and Nemesis, that makes no sense. So I think she's a hologram based on Janeway when she was captain of Voyager.

Or they could be calling her captain because people are more familiar to her as a captain.
Assuming she is in command of this ship, then naval tradition would permit her to be addressed as "Captain" even if her actual rank were Admiral.

But I thought the ship was supposed tired and abandoned as well as being small enough to where 6 teenagers could run it without much difficulty.

We know absolutely nothing about the ship other than that it was abandoned. It could be brand new for all we know.

Hm, A StarFleet academy show could be pretty interesting.... Showing off all the kinds of teachers and legends that passed down from each generation of cadets, could be a great way to do some worldbuliding.
dang it have i given away a million dollar idea? I really would like for this to be done, especially since we didn't see much of the academy even when we followed characters who intended to go there or actually went there. I would think it could be really lighthearted compared to some of the other series' themes
You may want to check out some of the many comics and novels (and the video game) set there, if you haven't already. Also the TNG episode The First Duty, DS9 episodes Homefront and Paradise Lost, Voyager episode In the Flesh and Star Trek 2009.
I believe I've seen those, but they only gave me more questions about the academy than answers. I will look into the comics and novels though!

Good Point.

Imagine the references to the all adventures Starfleet officers have gone through. Like say after Voyager returns home StarFleet dedicates an entire class/course to surviving in that situation. The potential for a show like this is glorious.

Don't worry.

The Starfleet Academy show/film/TV movie/whatever has been in pre-production since like 1982. They'll get around to it eventually.
