Spoilers NO SPOILERS FOR CODA - A Lit-verse Grand Finale...What We Know (Spoilers for Entire Lit-verse)

Beyond sad we'll not have any more of the absolutely wonderful work in the litverse after this year, I think in part because I feel often so disengaged from modern Trek (the seasons so far start strong (or at least promising) then feel like they lose themselves, forget early plots, or never fulfil their promise). In part I know my disappointment comes because I can't keep comparing to the better work the whole of Treklit over years seems to have amassed (better world building, better characters, better diversity, and so on). Not that every relaunch era book has been good, nor that I have agreed with every direction the editors and authors have taken us, but I can't help but be disappointed knowing it's ending and feeling like there is a flawed simulacrum in its place.

Yet it's wonderful to have a conclusion, rather than an emptiness. Still, I really hope it is not a Downer ending. Rather these "Star Trek universe" ships are allowed nobly to go in different directions, one the direction the tv series are taking us, the other the undiscovered direction the world of the trek books would lead to. I really hope we avoid a Warhammer End Times kind of thing!

In part, hoping that things "carry on", it is because I can't help wishing we also had Una finishing her little world, some proper sense of conclusion to whatever is going on in Ds9 and Sisko's daughter and the Dominion, what Lal will continue to be, and the like, or what is happening with dozens of other "ongoing"/"developing" plots. While these won't happen now, a happy ending means that they could happen - unlike what happened with the End Times and that IP, wherein things just stopped, violently and very distressingly so ("everyone you cared about dies").

I'm also intrigued - what happens to Rise of the Federation or other not-24th century things?

I deliberately took a bit of a break from Treklit and am a couple of years behind now. I had intended to catch up but might just read the finale trilogy now, and plough into the new books as they come out.

I'm lucky - I like the new shows / continuity (Lower Decks excepted) so any sadness at the end of the relaunch continuity is tempered by anticipation for the new world.

And I'm expecting to see our favourite authors there...

Dayton does not have enough time to be a Mod and write novels,IMO.

Dayton isn't looking to be a Mod and has never held any interest in doing so, and neither does he conduct himself in a manner which might lead anyone to think he is a Mod or wants the job.

Nobody wants Dayton to be a Mod, because Dayton would just make everyone do push-ups whenever they irritated him, which would be often because he would be drunk on power.

You're a mod now? Well done on the promotion.
No, but that doesn't mean I can't give people friendly reminders. I apologize if that was inappropriate, but it just looked like a few of the posts were close to story ideas, and I just thought I'd say something before somebody went to far.

@trampledamage, can a user on here do this?

I was under the impression such "friendly reminders" by a user, not a moderator is classified as an infrastructionable offence regardless of the intent is to be helpful.

I’ve done it before myself (very informally and gently) — it’s surely probably not a big deal to “prompt” folks occasionally when you spot it happening, in a friendly way. :)

Give me a couple of hours to get back to you on this. I don't want you to think I'm ignoring the question but I'm only just awake and can't think properly right now!

Not a problem at all. Thanks for letting me know.

So question. Couldn't the novel verse be continued in short stories, similar to the older Strange New Worlds anthologies or the Myriad Universes series?

I don't see why the format would matter. It's a question of what's considered marketable, and that would naturally tend toward the current, active shows. And the fact that Myriad Universes isn't still going on suggests that the market for alternate-continuity tales is limited.

Also, there are no Myriad Universes short stories. All nine installments were novel-length, over 50,000 words.
