Season 7 Episode 11: Parallels

I just don't like the Troi/Riker pairing because I think it's a bit silly that they went from years of semi-platonic friends with benefits back to being enough in love to marry, and that the merriage happened in the last movie. That's my problems with the Riker/Troi storyline.
If they had married in season 4, 5 or six then the relationship could at least have had an impact on the show/franchise.

It happens in real ife. I've heard of folks who go 20-30 years of being out of touch before getting back in touch and ending up married...

Out of touch makes more sense, absence makes the heart grow folder and all. Will and Deanna almost sat next to each other on the bridge for seven years (+however many years the movies cover)
They watched each other date other people, they gave each other dating advice. And the only times they got jealous was either because it was a first season episode and the writing stank to high heaven, or because Deanna was under some telepathic influence.

I don't have a strong opinion on Troi's romantic life. But I love me some Parallels, because I need my alternate universe fix!

That parallels scene shows how heartless these Starfleet types can be. Not only to those that are on the wrong side of the Prime Directive, and therefore have to die, but also to alternate versions of themselves. Even if it was probably done for the greater good of restoring all timelines.

Yeah, I think the idea was that at the end Worf traveled back to the point in time in 'his' universe from which he jumped to a parallel universe for the first time, and it therefore 'never happened'. As such, the only one that seems to have any memory of the incident is Worf himself. Which also means the Worfs of alternate universes never slided. Whether they have any memories or not is unclear.

Which would mean the Borg-have-taken-over-the-Federation-Worf would just continue serving on his battered ship, rather than suddenly materialising between the wreckage and only just having enough time to think ::"Oh Fek'hlr! Oh well, it still beats becoming a Borg drone." before dying.

This episode is the reason I don't argue over Trek canon from one series to another. I take each different series in Trek as if it could be from any one of those many thousands of different universes. Each universe with its own slightly different canon.

I take each episode as playing out in a slightly different universe. That way, I don't have to argue about canon or continuity, ever.

I wouldn't have minded that one of his jumps go to the Borg ship, and done a darker jump with them maybe figuring out a way to keep the borg enterprise in another universe.

I'm not sure what they could have done to help the Enterprises from the Borg-verse. Much more was at stake than the fate of any one ship.

I like the idea of Worf/Troi from an 'Opposites attract' point of view. But they didn't do much to substantiate it besides reference bonding they did in Ethics.

I also like the idea of having Worf pass through a Borg ship, but then I'm not sure how that would have worked with the visor thing. They would have had to change the mechanism of shifting if they did that.

There should have been more than one Enterprise that came from a hellish reality. What about one where the Klingons had conquered Earth? Cardies? Rommies? The reality where Neelix found his way to Federation space?

That always made me wonder, does that mean the reality-displaced Worf who had shifted to the Borg Enterprise (who's seen in the background frantically operating half-exploding consoles iirc) died with the ship...and that the Worf who originally came from that version of the Enterprise ended up in empty space when all the Worfs returned to their proper reality?
Actually there's one tenant of the episode that still remains to be seen. They did state that anything was possible and that Worf could return at any point in time before or after he left; and there was also the possibility he wouldn't return to his original reality at all.

Thus the sequence where you see all the various versions of Worf In the shuttle following the procedure outline to return him to his proper reality - there must have been other Worfs who ended up at some point in time far in the past/far in the future/In some other reality not related to any of the previous realities he had visited.;)
;)

The reality where Neelix found his way to Federation space?

You might think that's the darkest reality, but there's an even darker one: Neelix found his way to Federation space, but first made a detour in which he acquired a certain earring and a tendency to grab ears.

^ Gave me this association:

<In the fire caves.. The Sisko wrestles Neelix and they both fall into the fiery bottomless chasm, the Book of the Kosst Amojan between them> <then, a light flash>

<later>
SISKO: Sarah? Are you here? What happened?
SARAH: The Emissary has completed his task.
SISKO: But the Pah wraiths.
SARAH: You've returned them to their prison within the fire caves.
SISKO: The book was the key, wasn't it?
SARAH: To a door that can never be opened again.
SISKO: And Neelix.... Is he dead?
SARAH: He's where he belongs, with the Pah wraiths. Let him walk the path of annoying them, now.
SISKO: Phew.

Yeah, I think that ending of DS9 would have had a strangely satisfying quality to it.
