Ah great, cue a new round of conspiracy theories.

Hope they can start soon, but glad they're ensuring it's safe.

Are you implying they age backwards? You said you wanted to see a new show with Shran taking place in 2155. The last time we saw him was in 2161, and fifteen years ago in real life.

2161 was a holodeck full of inaccuracies

Not according to canon. That recreation was 100% accurate as far as we know.

Including Riker talking to T'Pol? It's clearly inaccurate, Riker didn't remember every line to say that Chef said, even if the exact lines were recorded, plenty of room in that episode to ignore it all. We know that Riker likes playing with the NX01 and has on more than one occasion

Obviously the person running the program will be taking liberties with the historical accuracy of it. But there’s no reason to assume the Shran we see isn’t accurate to his actual depiction in 2161. And to my knowledge Riker had no interaction with Shran.

And I think the point is being missed here. Coombs isn’t going to play a character he last played 15 years ago, in an era where he’s supposed to be younger than he is in real life. That’s why they hired Chris Pine to play young Kirk instead of Shatner with a facelift. I suppose they could de-age him with CGI, but not for every single episode of said new series. That would be time and cost prohibitive.

On the other hand there's no reason to think a holodeck program is accurate to the depiction -- the Enterprise D managed to get Stephen Hawking fairly accurate. Indeed we saw the real Isaac Newton in Death Wish, and he looked different to the Holodeck version in Descent.

I’m pretty sure the Federation had visual records of Shran and Hawking, unlike Isaac Newton.

Hawking maybe not since many records were destroyed in the 90s.

Considering the hologram of Hawking looks exactly like how he looked in real life, I’d say the Federation’s visual records of him were fine.

Well, they were bound to get it right at some point in time ;)

I wonder if they’re filming seasons two and three back-to-back. There was a fairly reliable production website which seemed to indicate that, right?

    I might be mistaken.

I read somewhere that was the original plan filming seasons 2 and 3 back to back but with the pandemic everything has changed.

It can still be done (it may take slightly longer, but it can still be done).

I thought the claim that seasons 2 and 3 were going to be filmed back to back was debunked, even before the pandemic happened?

Hawking died in 2018. So, post-1990 records would have been available!

I don't recall it being debunked. Sir Pat wasn't getting any younger before COVID, and certainly not after!

But his visual record was of Hawking was how he looked in about April 1993, towards the beginning of the eugenics wars

I wouldn't be surprised if they waited till late spring or even the summer to shoot. The pandemic should be far more under control by then (at least till the winter) and many more people should be vaccinated in the US too.
