I won't be at all surprised if this is the case. The only saving grace is that this should be the last delay. Still irks that a film I should have seen at the age of 49, I now likely won't see until I'm 51!

What age will poor Daniel be when he’s promoting it, 18 months after he thought the role would be behind him.
I know! On the plus side I imagine any lingering hopes Barbara B had of enticing him back for one more film are likely dead in the water now.
I'd like to hope Eon are using this time to plan Bond #26/nail down the next actor for the part so they can hit the ground running and get the next film out within a couple of years, but I fear they're not (I believe BB has said they don't even want to think about life after DC until he's gone) and I have a horrible feeling it'll be 2024 or 2025 at the earliest before the next 007 will debut.
Watch them hold off until 2026, so they can use the line "first new James Bond in twenty years" in the promotion.
^Sadly that wouldn't surprise me. I'm not sure Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Williams even enjoy making Bond films anymore. It feels almost like a chore or an obligation. Part of me wouldn't mind them selling up, but not sure I really want to see this:

I don’t have any particular interest in seeing M: Origins or Moneypenny Begins. The supporting characters in Bond are just that for a reason; it helps that at present they’re played by actors of the calibre of Fiennes, Kinnear, Harris, etc, but as characters, I’ve no particular interest in learning about them. Nor do I really see what point there’d be in a movie about 006 or 008.
Rather than the MCU approach, however, I would be interested in Bond following the DC route, namely a multiverse take. At present, there’s the DCEU, we’ve The Batman coming, while we’re also supposed to be seeing Michael Keaton return, then there’s one-shots like Joker (that’s in addition to the tv shows).
I would therefore love to see Eon release an official big-budget 007 movie every few years but also maybe do something smaller scale for Netflix or tv. Let Brosnan or Dalton return as their versions. Have Lazenby bookend as an older 007 reminiscing his revenge on Blofeld after OHMSS (with a younger actor in the period scenes). Do a 1950s origin story or Bond still as submarine commander, etc. Make them smaller-scale, character based, more detective-style, whatever.
In the last few years, there have been numerous Sherlock Holmes onscreen - Cumberbatch, RDJ, Jonny Lee Miller, Ian McKellen, even Will Ferrell. Basically, I think there’s room for similar approaches with Bond.
I completely agree, a DC multiverse approach would be great, Big budget Bond films set in the present, with a series of Netflix period pieces in between. The only risk I can see is if your TV Bond proves more popular than your cinematic Bond, which is one of the reasons the notion of a big screen Who running alongside the BBC series worried me somewhat. Time will tell if multiple Batmen works for the DCEU I guess.
With the news about a new 007 coming in No Time to Die, I thought it might make for an interesting franchise idea in which her and Bond have their own series of movies with the occasional crossover team-up every few years. Not sure it's really necessary to go full MCU style with Moneypenny, Q, Felix Leiter and a young M getting their own films though.
I'm expecting her to die, either heroically or killed by Bond when it turns out she'd working for Remi Malek. (leaning more towards the former now)
I would like to see someone - perhaps the BBC here in the UK do (more) faithful adaptations of the original books/short stories. Each novel could be say four hour long episodes and the short stories one. They would be period pieces set in the 50s and early 60s and if on a scale of 1 to 10 of accuracy Dr. No & From Russia With Love from the films were 6 out of 10, these would an 8 or even a 9 - with maybe an extra fight or car chase (plot relevant of course) to spice up the action a little. The first series could be - Casino Royale, Live & Let Die, Moonraker & Diamonds Are Forever. The second - From Russia With Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger & the short stories from For Your Eyes Only. The third - Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me (if they can get permission to do so as Fleming originally forbade that the novel be adapted), On Her Majesty's Secret Service & You Only Live Twice and finally the fourth series would be The Man With The Golden Gun and the short stories in Octopussy & the Living Daylights. I suppose you could 'cheat' a little and to pad out the final series you could do the first official continuation novel, Colonel Sun and maybe make some of those James Bond TV show episode ideas Anthony Horrowitz has been allowed to use in his Bond novels.
As someone who loves the books but doesn't really have strong feelings about the movies, this does sort of appeal to me. I think the main problem is that the people who own Bond have protected it as a brand so well that this kind of thing would only water it down.
They like their Bond movies to be definitive cinematic events, and they've very clearly marked out what people should expect from those movies. Instalments might vary wildly in quality, but the release of a new one is always presented as a big event and something different from other action movies. I doubt they'd want to muddy that message by presenting a bunch of TV shows that would be more accurate but wouldn't actually live up to the current Bond brand. Realistically, I think a lot of people would just find more accurate TV versions boring.
It would sort of be like Porsche releasing a $20,000 sedan.
Really, the books are always going to be there, and I don't feel any burning desire for them to be adapted. If anyone on here hasn't done so already, I'd highly recommend checking them out on Audible. Narrators include Tom Hiddleston, Bill Nighy, and David Tennant, and they do a hell of a job bringing those books to life. For my money, those are already the perfect adaptations. Makes sense. Given how things are going in the U.S., there's no way it could be safe enough to open that film by April.
They wouldn't make back production costs if they did that.
I imagine that this is the most expensive Bond film, one that was already 5 years in the making, and the final outing for probably the most financially successful actor in the role. I just don’t think they want it to be the first 007 movie to bypass cinemas and debut for home release
The budget is currently estimated at $250 million, which would put it in the same ballpark as Spectre (which was officially $245 million, but may have been as high as $300 million). And the goal isn't to break even, it's to make a profit. @The Wormhole is right, there's no way they can earn it back, much less turn a profit relying on streaming and home media.
