First, I want to note, as an addendum to my last post, that, for whatever reason, the stand for the "Cage" Enterprise doesn't fit onto the saucer as snugly as the stands for the regular Connie Enterprise and Defiant's stands do. Not sure why. The saucer seems just as think.
I had a little bit of a poignant moment yesterday. I reached out to my local store and found they had the last three models from the numbered set in. I wasn't sure how popular they'd be, so I rushed over as soon as I was done work (I work from home and, fortunately, I'm much closer to the store, now that I've moved) did a curbside pickup (you know why) and bought them all.
It's a little bittersweet, knowing this is the end of the set. Obviously, I'll still be buying a few specials (like the Reliant concept) and some back orders, like the Tamarian ship, but for the most part, my collecting days are almost over.
Anyway, starting with the first, it turns out the Husnock ship looks rather familiar, in fact I've already bought it in the past couple of months, twice. The filming model was later recycled as the Bajoran freighter and the smuggler's ship, among others. (I stated in an earlier post that this was not the case. Turns out I was wrong). It was a simple looking ship, not as detailed as enemy ships that would come later, like the Jem'Hadar ships, but not bad.
The Vidiian ship surprised me when it was announced. I didn't realize there were actually two Vidiian ships (not counting the recycle of the Merchantman from their first appearance). I guess it's been so long since I saw the episodes, I forgot. I like color and detailing on this one. I'm a bit embarrassed to say this, though, but from a couple of angle (like straight on), it kind of reminds me of the Sea Duck from "Tale Spin"!
And finally the last one. A proper Borg cube in regular size. This one, more than any other ship in the set, reminds me of its "Micro Machine" counterpart. I kind of wish they'd based if off the "Best of Both Worlds" cube, instead of "First Contact", as I think the former looks a bit better, but this one has some nice touches, like the hint of green. You can also see the hatch for the sphere if you look hard enough. A fine ship to complete the set with.
