News RUMOR: Whittaker potentially leaving

If it would be Micheal Sheen, I really hope they don't bring him on until Prodigal Son is over. I'm really enjoying it, and Sheen absolutely makes that show, and it probably couldn't survive without him.

If they did cast, I would love it to be brought up on Staged.

Casting the Doctor is always a tricky mix of getting someone with the experience and skill to do the job well, but not so famous they overshadow the role. I think Sheen is too far to one end of that spectrum, myself.

I'm interested in whether Josh O'Connor could do a Matt Smith style younger Doctor (although he's already four years older than Smith was when he took the role).

Well I do like Richard Ayoade and I think he would be my next choice. Still also have some hopes also for Hayley Atwell also at some point. I still want a American one though at some point. I am also kind of keen on the idea of a British actor doing a American accent as the Doctor. Especially with a Southern Accent. Therefore I say give us Doctor Andrew Lincoln. Complete with a Cowboy hat mixed together with a purple slicker and one of those old style Cowboy Bow Ties you might see in a Western. Also a gun holster only altered to hold the Sonic Screwdriver.

After starting the year on a Who-related 'high', I'm really struggling with whether or not I want to be a Whovian at the moment based largely on how quickly people have been to dismiss Jodie without evidence, and it's disheartening and sad, especially with my needing an escape after all of the real-world shit that's happened in the last week

It's why I took last year off and no longer visit Gallifrey Base. That forum is over run with incredibly nitpicky and critical people, who seem to unanimously hate the show, with an underlying vein of sexism - particularly from the 'old guard' of fandom - and where the notion that "it's not as good as it used to be" is treated as fact.

Maybei should make this a separate post...but do you think they should age up Jodie so that can show up in future multi-doctor episodes?

That way, she doesn't need much make up. She can be the age she is for those episodes. It seems crazy to me to kill off a Dr. without aging up the actor (whereas it made sense for the first couple of Doctors)

It's irrelevant since for her regeneration scene BBC is going to insist she be in her "traditional" non-aged look anyway. That's why Matt Smith had that "reset" where he temporarily reverted to being young again before completing the regeneration in Time of the Doctor. It's also why RTD decided against his original idea of aging Tennant up for TEOT.

Do you know what the rationale is for why they insist on the traditional look? Marketing thing?

I believe it has to do with the regeneration scenes being high profile moments, they want the Doctors to have their "Traditional look" in what is going to be their final moments and a scene which gets an enormous amount of attention among the audiences.

As RTD explained in The Writer's Tale when he had a conversation with BBC about aging Tennant up for TEOT (and it was very simple aging that was planned, just adding gray hair at his temples) BBC's immediate reaction was "well as long as he's his traditional self for the regeneration scene." This was also why Tennant's scars and bruises disappeared from his face.

I like Jodie and think she makes for a solid Doctor but I kind of gave up on the show until Chibnall is gone. He wouldn't know a decent script if Shakesphere handed one to him. I mean I made it through up until the early to middle part of his second season and things were not getting better.
