Spoilers Ah, the NEW uniforms...!

As I said the in universe order is irrelevant. The first step in making the Klingons alien was in TMP, the birth of the lobster heads. There is a pre production drawing showing the TMP Klingons were intended to be even more “Lobster”, almost to the DISCO level.
Ah, here it is.

I guess you wouldn't care if the NX-01 looked like the E, and the E looked like the TOS 1701 then

I believe that concept art was actually for the Klingons in STIII, not TMP. An idea that was abandoned by Nimoy in favor of how they appeared in TMP.
Site I saw it on dates it from 1978. The SFS Klingons take a slightly different tack than TMP. Giving the Klingons longer hair and a different ridge design and dropped the teeth.
From MA
Specifically at the request of Leonard Nimoy, Robert Fletcher was made responsible for duties encompassing Star Trek III's redesign of Fred Phillips' redesign of the Klingons. Fletcher collaborated with Tom Burman of the Burman Studio, who fabricated Fletcher's designs; they thus created the third-generation version of Klingons, whose bony foreheads were less pronounced than those shown in The Motion Picture. (The Art of Star Trek, p. 226) "We tried to make them somewhat less brutal, less prominent," stated Fletcher, "so that you get a better sense of the Klingons' individual faces." Burman shared Fletcher's conclusion that the Klingon forehead had to be revised. "It was just too cartoonish, and I didn't want a Star Wars look in this movie," Burman related. "There had never been a good marriage between the forehead appliance and the actors' faces. We tried to keep them in character rather than have these obtrusive things on their heads."

I don't see it as the same thing. I would like the see the NX-01, the 1701 and the E reimagined for the 2020s if for some reason they made new installments using those ships.

After finally watching the episode and getting more context for the teaching holograms, it’s my opinion that the woman in the blue Starfleet uniform with the TNG commbadge was meant to represent a Starfleet officer from immediately before the other Vulcan officer in the gray and red uniform. There would be no reason to use a teaching hologram of someone wearing a uniform from post-TMP/pre-TNG.

In truth, I'm not sure what period (if any...!) that particular individual is meant to represent.

When was this episode shot? Could this be the result of whatever was available being put together because of covid restrictions...?

The uniform is such an odd mash-up of details that it looks more like a trial costume that they pulled out of the back of wardrobe and used for a brief appearance in the episode. The sleeve patches are unlike anything used before and the combadge looks like the commercially available merchandise version of the TNG badge.

Uniform spoilers from the season finale!

The Discovery-A crew switches to the 32nd century Starfleet uniform.

TrekCore review includes two images, Captain Burnham and bridge crew, in the new unis.

I'm still thinking that Season 4 focuses on rebuilding the Federation, and might see the construction and eventual launch of a new Enterprise, with a good-looking new uniform to go with it. Perhaps one of the Disco crew could become the E's new captain.

I was thinking something along those lines, with maybe Saru becoming Captain of Enterprise? He was trying to learn about most-decorated officers, which included April and Pike, and at the end of this season, he was facing his own test (I call it the Kobayashi Saru)

I think he would end up the next Enterprise Captain.

I'd love that! It would be a shame if he was "robbed" of captaincy for good.

As opposed to continuing to wear their originals. There is no practical in-universe reason to stick with them, they're just clothes after all.

I'm not a huge fan - from one side they look like featureless grey tunics. I'm hoping that during the break they decided to change everyone's uniforms again to something more flattering.

It was joke :)

I do that from time to time.

They gray tunics make everybody look pregnant, like how they outfitted Roxann Dawson when she legit was pregnant.

And the gray unis in general...meh. The DSC crew is da bomb, so the rest of Starfleet should have gone to the retro blues

I’ve always liked the WoK and First Contact uniforms.
Well, there goes any credibility you had about uniforms out the window.

Burnham was the only one who I thought looked pregnant and it made me wonder if SMG was pregnant at the time.
