Lol....the people on imgur hated it. The only reply I got was: "technically well done, but the ship looks awful"..so I really appreciate this man.
Meh...its fine. Everyone has a right on his opinion. Also now I really have something to think about since its out now that I even failed to make clear whats the front and whats the rear of the ship.
Why? I'm sure some of the scifi ships made over the years were built with no thought to what certain features were supposed to be..., over the years.Meh...its fine. Well...that could be true. Sadly I did think about what all this stuff is supposed to be. Sooo....I gues it is kinda awful. On the other hand...I actually thought about going with how you interpreted it at one point, sooo from an esthetical standpoint I can follow you. Now I kinda want to play around with the model and see where else I can go with it.
This is kinda hilarious. It reminds me of a story some designer once told. I think it was Doug Drexler or John Eaves. They designed a ship and everybody was happy with it. Then one person came along and said "that ship looks like a turkey in a frying pan" or something like this. After that being said they could not unsee it and had to change the design. I can feel this now..

They are there to escort their son to his newest station: the USS Enterprize, seen in the distance. Sarek helps his wife out, for while a courier shuttle might be one of the few small faster than light ships, they are not known for their comfort. Their pilot, in the meanwhile, awaits further instructions from the bay master.

Thats great. I think Star Trek and Syd Mead is a combination that cant go wrong. I recently spent some hours watching Syd Mead concept art and most of it would feature little scenes like this. Very well done. Also in the shapes and materials especially of the shuttle craft one can see the influence. Also that ring-drive makes a very recognizable shape and thats very important I think. Putting life into the scene instead of only focusing on the pure could technicality really elevates it.
Well...I think you accomplished what you were going for.
The shuttle craft on the left is supposed to carry some kind of container or module between the landing gear?
I cheated: all people here come from SENTINEL, of which I found HD scans on the interwebs, even though it is the only book actually in my posession.
And the answer to the shuttle question is "maybe": Its shape is a direct reference to the car he made as seen here so the ability to carry a container is a happy coincidence.
That was the double-E with the pylons swept forward, in pre-production for FC. Someone at some point did a drawing of it with the little paper booties on the ends of the nacelles, just to get the point across.
