Spoilers The Mandalorian season 2 discussion

Wouldn't a simple explanation be that they made the "notch" on this model wider than on previous incarnation to fit the shuttle?

It's not just the width, it's also the height of the shuttle that wouldn't fit. And the TIEs were launched nearly scraping the sides of the landing bay, while the shuttle had plenty of room to the sides of it (a TIE should be only a bit narrower than the main hull of the shuttle, discounting the wings. In that sequence, a TIE was bigger in all dimensions than a shuttle with the wings closed).

From the way they were describing the plan in the show, I thought the shuttle actually wasn't going to fit, and the were going to block more TIEs from launching by crashing it into the bay, not just leaving it illegally parked.

Just watched the "making of" special, and I can't help but notice they don't even touch on the Hamill cameo. Given that just about everything BUT that leaked from this season, I'm wondering two things.: -
1) just how tight was security when filming that scene? Was it a closed set? Was Hamill even present or did he just provide a scratch track for the body double to play off of and dubbed the final in later?
2) Could someone on the doc's crew (film or post) be the source of the leaks? There's even a brief shot of Mercedes Varnado in the armor with her real hair out, that looks very decidedly Sabine-like, which would account for that rumour misfire.
If it was just a body double on set, and Hamill was never there, then the people on set at time might not have known the character was going to be Luke. They never actually said his name, so if the crew never saw Hamill, and nobody told them who he was, then I could easily see them not knowing.
Did they ever film anywhere where people not involved with the show could have seen things like Dawson as Ahsoka, or Varnado in Mado armor?

Yeah, though the outfit, saber, R2, and double with a face covered in tracking dots would be a bit of a giveaway, no?

Truth be told I don't even give a damn about most Star Wars actor gossip and frequently don't even know about it unless it appears one of three places: HelloGreedo, Facebook or here. I didn't even know John Boyega was fed up with things until someone here or on Facebook mentioned it. I'm one of the last people to hear gossip about celebrities and care when I do.

OK, I didn't consider that stuff, I was just focused on the fact it probably wasn't Mark Hamill.

That, and nothing on the music. Maybe they had a full season planned and then COVID? I like what we got, and "The Mandalorian Blues" is absolute gold, but I would have liked a bit more.

She's moved up to second in command of the entire organization, which is a pretty big improvement from being one of Vos's people. It's especially impressive when you consider that not that long ago she was just a slave.

That's a distinction without a difference. It doesn't matter one bit. She went from working for one evil guy to working "more closely" with a much more evil guy. If anything, her situation is worse. It would only have been a good dramatic beat (and better for her) if she was solely in charge. It doesn't matter that she got a fucking raise.

Yeah, the whole thing felt like eight little eight minute DVD featurettes overviewing each episode that were edited together into one sixty four minute doc. Mind you a lot of the material of the previous season was a round table discussion, which for obvious reasons can't be done in person this time. Even the talking head segments look like they were filmed at home remotely, rather than in person.

RE: Luke. It's just not occurring to me that ALL of the Luke footage may have been shot separately without any of the other actors in the room (even Pascal) and it was edited and comped into their side of the scene in post. I don't think there were any two shots of Luke and Dyn, only over the shoulder, and they never got close enough to overlap in frame. Plus they both seemed to be standing VERY still during the R2 exchange.

Has anyone heard anything in regards to a home release for The Mandalorian or Clone Wars season 7?

I just looked up High School Musical The Musical The Series, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum and they're not out either, so it looks none of the Disney+ Originals are out on home video.
They've released a new video with Giancarlo Esposito talking about Star War, and The Mandalorian.

To quote Qui-Gon Jinn "There's always a bigger fish."

I don't know if I would argue that her situation got better, though better is a matter of perspective. To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi "A certain point of view." The reason, to my mind, is that she was someone who grew up as a street orphan, someone who had to scrape and beg and steal to get by. So, now she is in a position of power, and control, something that would not have come to her while on Corellia. She has done many evil things in the name of working for Dryden Vos. And since Maul was fairly hands off in his organization's day to day operations she might well be able to consolidate her power. Especially since Maul will soon be losing his mind in pursuit of holocrons and Kenobi.

Qi'ra's motivations are got into in more detail in the tie-in novel ('Most Wanted', IIRC?)
You know that character trope where there's the ex-con who's been inside long enough to have done serious time, but not so long as to be institutionalised, and will do ANYTHING (up to and including dying) to make sure they never go back inside again?
Qi'ra is like that, only instead of prison, it's poverty. She has an immense drive to not only avoid poverty, but get absolutely as far from it as possible as if it emits radiation; to make sure there's absolutely no way in the universe that she'll ever be back in that situation. And when I mean poverty I'm not talking about just below the bread line, I'm talking about literally growing up in a sewer. Not just any sewer either, but the absolute *worst* part of the sewer. The part that other sewer dwellers recoil at the mere mention of.

She also has a superficial streak since she equates "nice things" with success and happiness. Even when she lived in the hellhole that was "the silo", she did all she could to make her slum "nice" and to make her clothes "nice". Of course my her standards "nice" is still a shithole and rags, respectively, which she increasingly starts the realise. It all comes from an innocent aspirational place, but it's also driven by a sense of shame that's leading her towards a selfish, consuming world view. It's a drive to not just survive, but thrive.

So yeah, getting closer to Maul makes her job WAY more high stakes, but at least she doesn't have to deal with a violent psychopath prone to mood swings. Maul may be dangerous, but at least he's *sane*. Also, being the second in-line for one of the top 5 cartels in the galaxy means more "nice things" and that little bit further away from the gutter...

I really hope they get Emilia Clarke back in one of the Disney+ shows if Solo 2 isn't in the cards. Qi'ra is easily one of the more interesting characters created for the Disney movies and one that still has a lot of potential for further storytelling.

Yeah, Most Wanted goes pretty deep into Qi'ra's character, and I think the Solo novelization gave us at a few of the scenes from her perspective too.

This is an excellent point and one that I think perfectly summarizes what Qi'ra wants. She wouldn't mind to be a good person but that doesn't offer the sense of security that being close to power does. And the fear of poverty has a significant impact on humans and can greatly impact development.

I suspected at least part of the Darktroopers were live action. The reflections on the shiny armor looked far too natural and imperfect to be CG. Or at least CG feasible on a TV budget & production schedule.
You can see one hanging out in the background here.

Incidentally, this video seems to reveal a detail I don't think has been mentioned to date; the Grogu puppet can make baby noises on set.

I have lots of thoughts on Mando S2 that I've been itching to share:
* Given that the immediate future of the series is clearly going to involve internal Mandalorian conflict revolving around the Darksaber, it makes sense for the production team and writers to temporarily separate Din and Grogu

* I'm 100% positive - and was so before Lucasfilm officially announced the Ahsoka series - that the events depicted in The Mandalorian involving her take place before her appearance in the Epilogue of Rebels

* I'm also 100% positive that what Moff Gideon was doing with Grogu's blood and Midichlorians is completely unconnected to either the First or Final Orders

* Given that her personal views and offscreen behavior have zero relevance to the character of Cara Dune and do not violate any laws, I personally doubt that Gina Carano's involvement with The Mandalorian - or even, given the narrative trajectory of her character arc, with Rangers of the New Republic - is in jeopardy

* It is not logical, based on the timing of events related to Order 66 as depicted onscreen, to think that Yoda, Obi-Wan, or any other Jedi that we saw onscreen during Revenge of the Sith had anything to do with safely smuggling Grogu out of the Jedi Temple

* Ahsoka stating that she only knew one other member of Grogu's species is not erasure of the character of Yaddle because she (Ahsoka) did not come to the Jedi Temple until after Yaddle had stepped down from her seat on the Jedi Council and her path and Yaddle's would not have crossed for any reason

* Given that the Razorcrest is a type of starship, I do not believe that we have seen the last of said starship even though the specific Razorcrest that Din owned was blown up by the Empire

* Given R2's constant presence at the Jedi Temple during the time that Grogu would also have been there, it isn't inconceivable that Grogu might have recognized R2 by sight even if the likelihood of them interacting previously is extremely low
