What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

The NX-01 was in the fleet museum. The name was technically available, but it would have felt weird to use it. That is until Starfleet launched a class of vessels all named after famous starships of the past (the Starship class).

Was that old Enterprise Decker shows Ilya in TMP before or after the NX? I can never remember.

If you include ships of the sea, there have been many ships named Enterprise. The displays only showed a few.

Perhaps they periodical change, and the NX-01 would have a turn?

To me, "Classic Star Trek" means TOS.

Whenever someone refers to TNG-ENT as "Classic Trek", it looks weird to me. Yet calling it "Old Trek" somehow doesn't look weird, which is what I call any Star Trek from 1966 to 2005. "Classic Trek" is more like something I equate with "Classic Cars". Whereas an old car isn't necessarily a classic, it's just an old car.

For me “Classic Trek” means TOS, TAS, and the TOS movies

Same here. The films and TAS stand apart. TOS is its own animal.

Technically the 1701-D holodeck computer says: "There have been five Federation ships with that name." So that gives the episode a convenient out when it comes to not mentioning the NX-01. Although Scotty is so vague about which Enterprise bridge he wants to see that technically it could also have been the bridge of the ringship or one of the 20th and 21st century aircraft carriers. ;)

I think it would have been hilarious if the holodeck had first shown him the World War II US Navy Aircraft Carrier bridge... but I guess they weren't writing a comedy episode.

I did just think of another technicality that restricts the 1701-D holodeck computer's search parameters. The NX-01 was almost never called "the Enterprise," just "Enterprise." The computer may be programmed only to offer Federation Era display options for historic ships with the name that was preceded by the determiner. I know that doesn't explain why the aircraft carriers or a sailing ship weren't offered but still, that's another loophole through which Archer's ship can escape. ;)

I always hated the idea that Sol was on the border of Alpha and Beta quadrants. In my head canon only Romulans were partly in Beta. Kind of Like how Russia's land mass is mostly in Asia, but its political, economical and cultural identity is European. All other Alpha powers (Federation, Klingons, Breen, Cardasians,...) are firmly in the alpha quadrant.

In a lot of ways that's how it should have been. When DS9 introduced the Bajoran Wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant, it was supposed to be a way to get to the far side of the galaxy in an instant, opening up a myriad of story possibilities including trade and fact finding missions in search of lost ships and other mysteries. It was also (or so many fans believed) supposed to be a way to learn about the Borg without having to go through the rigmarole of having to fight off an invasion. Once Earth was placed on the border between Alpha and Beta quadrants, most of those ideas got transferred to Voyager while to Dominion storyline was introduced on DS9.

I agree that it's stupid.

The way it plays, especially on DS9, it sounds like all the major powers are in the Alpha Quadrant. So that's what I go with. Where, like you, the Romulans are partly in the Beta Quadrant.

If Voyager weren't able to take any short cuts, I imagine it would've hit Romulan Space from the other end before it ever would've gotten to Federation Space. Which means they would've run into problems. That might've been an interesting thing to have happen in late-VOY if they were able to do a few more jumps and had ended up just short of Romulan Space.

Agreed. I like this maps border, though I'd move it right another square or two.

Well as far as I know there is no canon map of the Star Trek Galaxy, and the writers seemed happy to play fast and lose with how close several locations and empires were to each other, so some expanded universe map doesn't bother me

all the women who had the title 'great love of Kirk'
Just have her continuously morph from one of them to the next
All those "one true loves" that were never mentioned again.
