I should give it an 8, but I'll go 9 because I think I would've really loved it if I hadn't had the Guardian of Forever reveal spoiled by the stupid internet (not this site).

OMG I liked it...... But then of course I would. OMG Mirror Detmer getting shanked..... Oh no, and Mirror Airiam Oh yes.. I actually didn't mind part 2. I liked their new take on the Guardian, I liked it.

However a couple of questions remain, for me in that Georgiou's actions HAVE changed some internal history in the Mirror Universe because now the Kelpiens know they don't die, so wouldn't that cause changes in their ranks, but yeah I liked it all. Also she going back in time via the Guardian I would never have guessed they'd use this to send her back, but back to where? If it's the time they left then I guess that's OK no real harm done, but if it's some other time hmmmmmm I'm not so sure.

8/10
Vote changed .... 7 by accident on the poll

If Kahn Noonian Singh's actual fate were known to the Federation; you can be sure someone would have checked up on the colony in 15 years.
Or maybe there was no reason to divert a starship to check up what was *not* a federation colony? Again, there is no evidence of any expunged record anywhere.

About this episode, sure, Burnham could have avoided discussing the Guardian, but pretending that Georgiu is dead with her friends when a "she's fine but somewhere else now, don't ask more" would have been more than enough doesn't ring right to me.

But I've been wrong other times, such is life.

He didn't. He meant the "lies told by Starfleet officers" you referenced.

This, however, is a clear flame and against the rules; please don't insult people like this.
Exactly. Thanks.

About "getting personal", @Noname Given, I don't remember you at all, so calm down.

1. People could stop assuming they know "why" people think or say what they do.
E.g., "People who don't like X are just ppl who don't like DSC." You don't know that. It's hard enough to know ourselves, why we do something or like or dislike things.

2. I like redemption stories. If Georgiou is a kinder, gentler one within Section 31, I could live with that. I was predisposed to be against it.

3. Her change of heart seemed abrupt. She's a be-atch for weeks, gets worse while sick (understandable) and then boom, she's in the MU and she's a kindly reformer. Seemed sudden. She says she's seen an alternate and it is "luminous"? Nice word, btw, if I'm remembering it aright.

4. As an example of point 1 (above) -- I don't know why I liked these eps. :)

5. There's still a tendency to overtalk. Maybe we're supposed to "get" that this is Burnham's character. I don't think so, I think it's the writers over-splaining things.

6. With sarcastic/sardonic Stamets, Jett is superfluous and . . . not funny. I like funny, I really do, and I thought she was a comedian irl. When you had Georgiau, you had 3 snarks, and Georgiau's schtick was gettin real old real fast, though I know she was sick. (IRL I think it was a trope the writers just fell into, but whatever.)

All my $.02. from someone who wants to like this show, so don't tell me I am a hater because I find some things lacking. There are things I dislike about every ep of my one, true beloved (Star Trek, aka TOS), too.

Yes, but this is Discovery. We all know we cannot have sympathy for Georgiou.

I don't think it's about this. It's that her rehabilitation was, we are told, a pretty dramatic one and we only saw bits and pieces of it. I know it's a victim of shorter seasons in this era but all we basically saw was her being literally worse than Hitler, then she feels some emotions a few times and does a couple of helpful things, and then everyone is telling us she isn't worse than Hitler any more. That's it. Sympathizing with villains or antiheroes is fine but there needs to be care in how it's presented and this was a bit slapdash.

Oh!

I was a little worried they’d muck this up, given that Trek two-parters have an unfortunate tradition of a disappointing second half. But this exceeded part one for me. This was perhaps the strongest MU episode since the original TOS outing. Michelle Yeoh carried the show beautifully—the woman is a goddess and I’m pretty upset she will no longer be on Discovery. I will miss her presence.

The scenes between Georgiou and the Saru/not Saru Kelpian were moving, as was Georgiou’s attempt to redeem her ‘daughter’ Burnham.

I don’t know, the whole theme, that often even the worst of us can be redeemed and change our destiny, was so SO Star Trek and beautifully optimistic and hopeful. that’s precisely the kind of hope I need in my TV amid these bleak times.

Seeing Carl morph into the Guardian was genuinely exhilarating—that Robert troll who spoiled it for everyone and claimed it was the nail in the coffin of Star Trek (for some completely inexplicable reason) is an idiot.

The closing “memorial service” was maybe a bit overdone, less would have been more in these circumstances, but it almost felt more like it was done for the cast to say goodbye to Michelle Yeoh.

I was so hoping for an appearance by Jason Isaacs given all the mentions. Strangely I wasn’t too disappointed as this episode was strong enough on his own merits. If/when isaacs returns it deserves to be the primary focus of the episode.

Finally, I’m just a little disappointed with Captain Killy. Mary Wiseman didn’t manage to muster the necessary gravitas and menace in my opinion. Owo lurking in the background with very few lines displayed far more menace and danger.

Aside from that this was a classic episode in my book.

Yeah, I thought this was a terrific episode. Michelle Yeoh was just outstanding and left me pretty pumped for the Section 31 show.

The Georgiou arc has been a great thread through Discovery and I'm excited to see what comes next, both for her and for Michael. I think there's a sense that she no longer had a place on Disco and there were too many characters to give everyone focus. But I'm glad she did come along for this season to grow and give us a proper sense of closure, rather than simply stay behind at the end of season two.

The Guardian reveal got spoiled for me by Google pushing articles at me literally minutes before I was about to watch, which was annoying... Still a great moment and a smart pay-off.

Probably the best episode of the season so far for me.

Not sure how I feel about this 2 parter, to be honest, I was already quite burned out about the mirror universe from season 1. Although I can see this as a massive redemption arc story for Georgiou, Part of me does feel this 2 parter has just been a massive how do we get Georgiou back to be in the section 31 show and i just want to learn more about the 31st century at this point and i don't really want to go back to the mirror universe again for a long time.

Ill probably give both episodes a back to back watch over the Christmas break to see how it flows, but from my original watch i was mainly just more interested in learning about the future and the ship in the nebula.

I'd already had the guardian of forever reveal spoiled but when the voice did boom out it did hit home,

I have enjoyed seeing the real Captain Killy .

If I could like this twice I could. We’re all people that don’t really know each other and the internet, as most written media, isn’t the best in conveying the emotions behind one’s words.

2. I like redemption stories. If Georgiou is a kinder, gentler one within Section 31, I could live with that. I was predisposed to be against it.
Agreed. I don’t have anything against the general arc, only how it was implemented in this episode.

well, I think it can make sense: sometimes as we realize we’re proven wrong we cling to our opinion or behavior harder than before, as letting it go would be a tremendous ego blow.
Perhaps this is what has been happening in the last few episodes: she knew in herself that the federation’s way of life was a much better one but she kept refusing to accept it, making a point of being as nasty as possible o people, when she got back to her universe she was forced to accept that she didn’t like the situation at all and, being in a position of power, she could try to make things better.

The thing is even in part 1 we knew it was the Guardian so I don't know how many people would have actually been that surprised or shocked.
it was a popular and logical theory, but not something certain, AFAIK. First thing I thought was a Q.

At first I agreed, then I remembered what happened in COTEOF - when McCoy changed history, the effects were instantly visible in the timeline. He didn't create a new branch, just changed the existing one.
right. But perhaps the guardian can work in different ways. It is an ancient and mysterious being/device...

It fell flat for me. PG did far too many reprehensible things to be redeemed with a few meaningless acts of quasi-decency. The GOF bits felt like retreads of other sci-fi (ooh, a door on the middle of nowhere, wowie). I did like the agonizer effects work. It came off looking legitimately painful.

But overall, every time they shoot for 'heartfelt' on this show (certain Pike scenes aside), my reaction has been, "Eh. Ok." They just don't resonate with me.

My spine tingled with the booming I AM THE GUARDIAN OF FOREVER! :D :D :D

I gave it an 8, like last week's episode, as it was a great little follow-up. Georgiou, and Michelle Yeoh, were both excellent here, and if this really is the last time we see them on this show, they did us proud. I think I said the same last week about it being a shame we didn't see more of the relationship between the crew and Georgiou, but these two episodes did the best they could.

I loved seeing the Emporer bonding with Mirror Saru, and the pain she felt after doing her utmost to save Mirror Burnham. We even had Mirror Airiam!

I was hoping that we would get just a crumb of information regarding the exact setup of Georgiou and the S31 show, but no. :p
