Star WARS: Andor?

In yet another example of us living in a bizzaro branch-off universe, today the trailer for Star Wars: Andor debuted. Now, I loved Rogue One, and am delighted to see what they come up with for this prequel series, but this was a title made for a Star TREK series.

Either as a Trek Lit series (isn’t Star Trek: Andor the title of a Trek novella?), or say an animated series like Lower Decks (we saw Andor Town in LD episode 2 “Envoys,” I think), or in a live action series proper — Mandalorian is pretty cool, and there are half a dozen Trek series in the works and today it was announced 10(!) new Wars series are in the works. That’s right — 10!

That Wars got the Andor title...it’s just wrong to me.

I mean, I guess so I see the point, but not really. Star Trek was not likely to set a series on Andor in a great capacity so I don't see the conflict. I wonder if Wheel of Time fans are similarly upset?

Star Trek: Andoria would be more likely than Star Trek: Andor. They moved away from the Andor name with Enterprise and never looked back.

Have they? It was a prequel series (I’m surprised they didn’t call the Vulcans “Vulcanians”), but I wonder what the name of the planet would be on PIC or a 24th century series.

Well, maybe not. I missed one glaring reference to Andor in the phrase "Regina Andor" from Discovery. But the latest episodes (in the 32nd century) used star charts which explicitly called out Andoria. Apparently there were other references to Andor in Discovery (and Andoria in Deep Space 9) that muddy the issue.

Picard has Andorians, but no reference to their planet of origin.

Yes, I would feel the same way. It's not the name but the content of the series.

10 series'? It's like they read those articles about Kurtzman expanding Trek from a few years ago and were like, "gotta keep up with the Joneses"

“This is outrageous!” He bellows, smashing the service-wear into the crackling fireplace. “Andor?! They’re naming it fucking Andor?! Get me whosever running CBS this week! We’re producing a dozen new Star Trek shows as of this moment. Make it 13. And somebody grab me a bagel from the baker!

We’re producing Star Trek: Vulcan about the great social schism during the Time of Awakening, Star Trek: Alpha Centauri about little green men who once upon a time used to abduct Earthlings, Star Trek: Earth about what lead to their secession from the Federation, and Star Trek: Tellar about...about a bank for all I fucking care.

We’re fast-tracking Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Intelligence — we’ll put that one up against Section 31 and let the fans pick sides and slaughter each other on the boards.

And I want to see Star Trek: Geordi, a Murder She Wrote-like story with Burton. We’re going to do The Palais, a West Wing-like show about intrigue at Federation headquarters in the Palais de la Concorde, and a horror series about what really happened to the Bonaventure in that alternate dimension — think Event Horizon meets Haunting of Hill House...only scary. And someone get me a romance series that’ll fly...working title: Black Hole.

That reminds me, get my divorce lawyer on the horn. Let’s do one for daytime television, too. We’ll call it, Stardates of Our Lives or Starfleet Medical or Space Enders — yeah, that one might find a niche with the international audience.

I love the exploration of the 'war' side of Star Wars, with some grittiness to it. Andor was a great character and a series around him leading up to Rogue One should be great--hopefully it means we'll get more of K-2S0 as well (we all need more Alan Tudyk in our lives).

It'll be four years next week since Rogue One was released, but the name Cassian Andor was known to the general public for months if not a year before that. I don't see why we're getting so worked up now over the name. Regardless, we've known for at least a year or so now that Disney+ had a Cassian Andor series in development. What else was it going to be titled?

As stated above, the name Andor could have been a Star Wars nod to Trek in a one-off character/movie, and that’s actually a sweet gesture on their end if that’s what inspired the name — after all, it’s not a proper name; there is no natural real world reason to name him Andor.

Though I vaguely recall the series announcement ages ago, given the likelihood of any series making it to production, especially one that I’d actually want to see (again, I loved Rogue One and was intrigued by Andor’s backstory), I didn’t think about it much until yesterday’s trailer. ...when the title struck me.

Now, I don’t know if I’m talking to a bunch of weathered anti-outrage sci-if fans tired of internet negativity (or at least that from others than themselves), and, yeah, I’m not going to lose any deep over this, but also, yeah, that title is striking to me as a Star Trek fan. Especially as an Andorian fan.

Also, @1001001, what did you think of the piece? I had to stop to laugh multiple times during the typing. I only wish I’d written the camera movements, music swells, and reactions of the underlings he was talking to. But I liked the archness and fanwank stupidity of it.

EDIT: did the joke about changing the number of new series he wants from a dozen to 13 (or “a baker’s dozen,” and that’s why he also gets hungry for a bagel) land with you?

Also, Geordi is a Murder She Wrote-like (or Agatha Christie-like) series because Geordi goes off to become a writer in “All Good Things...” so his PIC spin-off would be very different from anything Starfleety.

The Palais de la Concorde is Federation headquarters in the Trek Lit where the Federation Council and President have their offices.

And Starfleet Medical is a nod to the long-running soap opera General Hospital and Space Enders to the UK soap Eastenders.

Oh, and Black Hole is a nod to the double entendre drink the sexy Boslic captain ordered at Quark’s. It’s a double (triple?) entendre here as the name of the romantic series, having 1) sci-fi significance for the show’s setting or theme, 2) sexual innuendo, and 3) a joke about (divorced) Roddenberry III’s look on love and romance.
