Could Elements of Fan Fims Ever Become Canon?

Could an element from a fan film ever become canon? Elements from other Star Trek media has become canon like Uhura's and Sulu's first name so why couldn't something from fan films. An example would be the second larger Guardian from Star Trek: New Voyages "In Harm's Way". If any element from the fan films were to become canon, which ones would you want to?

Uhura and Sulu's first names were from officially licensed Star Trek media. So it's a world apart from something in a fan film.

Me too. I would love to canonize Star Trek: New Voyages/Phase II and Star Trek Continues as well. However, none of those will be canonized, but perhaps elements of them could be. I would love for the office of Kitumba and other elements from the episode to be canonized such as the characters Ksia and Malkthon. I would also love for the museum ship Enterprise to be referenced under the command of one of Captain Kirk's nephews.

I've got certain fan series (well, just STC) that're part of my personal head-canon, but do I think CBS/Viacom should officially canonize them? Absolutely not, fan-made stuff should stay separate and unofficial.

I'm fine with different film production groups interacting with each other (some have)...but all that comes to my head after reading your request is why?

I would imagine the Powers That Be would do everything they could to avoid giving the impression that they adopted anything from a fan production. Just a guess.

Depends on how you define CBS here as the author of the episode definitely knew the names' origin; And she is effectively doing a work for hire for CBS.

Well, you can't copyright words or names so the rando pickup of a term used in a fan anything is not exactly a big deal.

Also, when a set piece was borrowed from a fan film for an episode of "Enterprise", the title of the fanfilm, "In Harm's Way", was dropped into the canonical script as an Easter egg.

"Vulcan's Forge", referenced as a homage in another episode, was also coined in a fanzine story published in 1969.
