I'll give the Orion ship a conservative 1.5 miles long. The ship would have to be at 50,000 Feet for you to see it THAT well. and it wasn't attacked in atmosphere. You could see the battle, a light show, but seeing a clear outline would be impossible.

Roughly 2.4 kilometres for the Emerald Chainship Viridian. And the distance from ground...15.2 kilometres?

50,000 feet would be pretty generous for "in atmosphere", FWIW. Supposedly, no longer being in outer space is a thing worth mentioning in this context, so a jetliner-type altitude would be preferable but something lower down is still fine. Osyyra wasn't striving to have wide horizons there: if her intent was to unnerve Kyheem, then her fire, even if truly voluminous, should be confined to an area around his house so that he can witness at least one kaboom every few seconds.

Also, making the ship visible from the ground would be high on Osyyra's agenda as such. She's out to intimidate, not to defeat a military opponent.

So the parts where she's shown at an altitude of 500-1000 km are the ones that don't quite work.

The guy was probably not killed, just stunned by the electro dart looking things.

But, yeah, Burnham is a bit too aggressive in new situations, suddenly mowing down Emerald Chain enforcers in the low dozens within 5 mins, not picking her fights very carefully.

I can tell you how it was translated into Polish. So there are no gender-neutral forms of pronouns etc. in this language, also verbs and nouns also often have two forms when it comes to adult people. So the literal translation they/them does not sound good because it refers to a group of people of two genders.
Furthermore, all sentences uttered by Adira about themselves(e.g. I picked up playing the cello) are translated in female form.

The Finnish version isn't helpful, because the language is gender-neutral through and through: Adira unambiguously decides to favor the plural over the singular there, nothing more or less. Which makes sense for a Trill, and makes this a classic Trek double-entendre in English because it can be read as Adira favoring plural over singular in that language, too (albeit with some difficulty).

A person favoring the plural might try and steer clear from saying "I". But Finnish hides that, too: like Latin, it drops unnecessary words in favor of inflecting the ones actually used, and the use of "I" is inherent in the use of "am" already, so the "am" is used alone.

(FWIW, Finnish references to the Borg are appropriately singular: "The Borg is", "The Borg invades"...)

Those bolts (arrows, almost) coming from the blunderbusses are definitely for stun: the buss doesn't appear to support "settings", yet Kyheem apparently still intends to apply the weapon to deliver Book to the Orion alive. Or at least he can't risk Osyyra accepting the delivery of a corpse when she never made an allowance for that in the deal.

However, we may still speculate on settings, and possibly the gun is for projecting programmable matter, which can take many forms, one of which is a stun arrow. Although a bolt is a pretty weird means of delivering stun...

Certainly any "conventional" take on the gun would have to presume the use of an invisible sabot to allow for the firing of this thin bolt from the thick barrel.

In German Adira uses a neo-pronoun that sounds similar to "they" except with a d sound at the beginning (deutsches they?!?! ^-^), but the subtitles use the word "per" which doesn't sound like what was said at all. The sub titles significantly differed from the spoken dialogue in general though, so maybe that's that.

Picard has shown that the tech for basic immortality was available as early as the late 24th century. This has not yet been addressed in Discovery. We have no idea if Vance is as old as he looks or a lot older, and he has not stated whether his Burn experience was firsthand or secondhand.

It was actually available in the 23rd century with Roger Korby's androids. Kirk threw a wrench into his consciousness duplication/transfer process, but the ability was there. The andorid's from "I, Mudd" promised Uhura and the crew they could transfer their consciousness into android bodies .

That line Saru says about Orions being slaves in the past is a novel reference correct? I don’t recall an episode mentioning that but I have read a few books that say that.

Hungarian has the same problem Finnish does, by virtue of being in the same Uralic language family... one single gender-neutral third-person pronoun, which we don't even have to use because verbs are already conjugated for person. And if you are describing a third person, you don't even have to use "to be," as it can be inferred from the context that you're talking about someone else. Hungarian translations are also notorious for inventing very unnatural-sounding translations for idioms they can't be bothered to look up the Hungarian equivalent for. But surprisingly, the Hungarian translation of Discovery used a quite elegant and natural-sounding way to circumvent our lack of grammatical gender.

All of Burnham's killings have been clear cases of self defense with no alternative. If anything it'd cliche when heroes agonize over that. Do the Orion weapons even have a stun setting? And I got the impression that weapon was a tranq dart, they were trying to capture Book, not kill him.

Wouldn't it be fun if the person in the nebula were Miles O'Brien, and Lower Decks was actually dropping a hint in that scene?

Indeed, yes. It is, as usual, excusing past workings with evil characters while condemning current characters. It is quite the interesting exercise in moral equivocating.
