Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Took damn near a month (ordered on Nov 6), but my shipment finally arrived yesterday! The Phoenix, the Bajoran freighter, the assimilated Arctic One, and the smuggler's ship.

I think the smuggler's ship my be my favorite of the four. It just looks so evil! (Though Arctic One might be a competitor for that, but more on that in a minute). In retrospect, maybe they should've reused that as the design for Baran's ship in "Gambit", instead of the Miradorn ship. The model has some nice heft to it (yet, strangely, the Bajoran freighter doesn't really).

The Bajoran freighter is basically a modification of the same ship, and the magazine lists some of those (though it misses the Numiri ship from "Ex Post Facto", which they made a Micro Machine out of, and mistakenly says that the Husnock ship was one of them). Not bad, but, as I've said before, I'd rather they did the Bajoran scout, which, unlike the freighter, was actually designed specifically to be a Bajoran ship, rather than a recycle.

The Phoenix is a nice looking ship. Not much to say about it, other than it might be the last MAJOR ship in the numbered collection that I didn't yet have.

I already have the "clean" version of the Arctic One, which is what prompted me to get the assimilated one. This has probably the strangest stand I've ever seen. It's very tricky to get it in or out. It's fun, evil-looking ship, but the small parts (as with the Enterprise-J and the various incarnations of the Klingon BOP) means I've going to have to be REAL careful with this one.

Waiting for my next shipment now.

Chakotay's Maquis ship is very... silver. I don't think it matches the colours seen in the show that well. I'm also a bit disappointed that the paintjob on the 22nd century Rommie BoP is a bit lacking - no yellow windows - OK I know window detail is lacking on other models too but this one is huge in the areas where the windows should be.

The magazine reminded me Chak's ship was referred to as Ju'day-Class. Given the visual similarity to a Klingon BoP, I always wondered if the people writing the background material just assumed it WAS a Klingon ship, or if they intended the name to suggest at a joint Federation-Klingon shipbuilding effort? But given the stated age of the ship (impulse engine was 30 years old) it seems unlikely.

Bajoran scout for a special issue please!

I always assumed it was named after Penny Juday. They love to do in-jokey stuff like that.

It was. And the only thing that looks even vaguely like a Klingon ship are the wings with the guns on the end a la a Bird of Prey.

The cockpit section has a short, but noticeable "neck" between it and the main hull which is more like a BoP than the vertical necks of older Fed ships (now missing completely from the E-E/Voyager on).

Anyhoo, not gonna argue, just how it looks to me. It could look like Rainbow Dash in Borg makeup to you for all the difference it makes.

They're starting to back-fill the missing issues for me. #153 (Devore Warship) is finally on its way - over a year late.

At this point, I'm still waiting for the following in my subscriptions:
  • 146 - Fesarius
  • 151 - B'omar Patrol Ship
  • 152 - USS Excelsior Prototype Mk I
  • 154 - Klingon Rebel Transport
  • 155 - Vulcan D'Vahl
  • 158 - USS Excelsior Prototype Mk II
  • 159 - Batris
  • 167 - Axanar Cargo Vessel
  • 172 - Xindi Insectoid Fighter
  • 173 - SS Arcos
  • 174 - Archer's Toy Ship
  • 175 - Mondor
  • 180 - Borg Cube
  • SP19 - Son'a Flagship
  • SP20 - USS Enterprise NCC-1701-S (Gold Small Edition)
  • DISCO13 - Worker Bee
  • DISCO27 - USS Zimmerman (Tug)
Lots of big holes in there. :sigh:

Website special for another 9 hours 30 percent off with code Cyborg. No exclusions except for Gold Enterprise. Works on XL, Specials, and pre orders. No minimum purchase. This is one of the better promotions.

I'm tempted to pre-order Starbase 1, only to be able to turn it upside down! I hate the orientation of it! It doesn't need to look like a tower with a base.

On the website its no longer listed as preorder, so I assume it will be shipping soon to web buyers. As for subscribers? Have no idea as the two don't always align.

I never even noticed now I think your right and I can't stop seeing it....

In fact it reminds me on how I feel about the Orbital Complex from Motion Picture after so many more appearances of the Regula One modification of the model, not to mention the modification done for stare 375.

At least they have the asymmetric landing bays correct this time.

Main deflector looks much better too.

Looks better than the last effort, but still. These partworks are so expensive and you never know if the thing will get pulled leaving you with half a model after spending hundreds.

Oof, that is expensive but it looks fantastic. The separation factor is a pretty big deal for me.

I’ll pass for sure but it would be mighty tempting if they were doing the TOS Enterprise.
