I'd love to know what Berman's issue with music was considering he wanted it to be sonic wallpaper. Maybe he got bullied by the band geeks in high school or something.

I completely agree. I don't think the writers are trying to do more than to show the story they want to tell. If they don't generate sympathy in the audience that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I mean, there are many emotional beats that don't work for people. I recall one college friend who started laughing at Jack's death in Titanic. I was generally unmoved by Edward Norton's character in "Fight Club."

Lack of personal emotion at the characters emotion doesn't mean it's trying to force emotions on the audience.

Does anyone know about when the episode drops? I've been watching on a several day delay so far this season. Thanks!

Berman is as dull as the wallpaper music he wanted... my best guess. ;)

Usually around 2:15 AM Eastern Time.

I'm going to stay up just long enough to watch it, then hit the bed immediately afterwards.

Yeah I struggle to take seriously notions that the writers are trying to intentionally manipulate the audience by writing crying into their scripts. If anything SMG and Wiseman crying shows a genuine engagement with the script and story.

And to add to your point about generating sympathy, i thought the ending of Avengers Endgame was cringe inducing. I get what the writers were trying to do, but it just all felt overwrought and didn't work for me.

Also Rose was a bitch, that door could have taken Jack aswell.

Got to the end of "Unification II". This was a lot better. Great character scenes between Spock and Picard as well as Spock and Data. Spock saw right through Pardeks bullshit. "Spock, we've been friends for 80 years!" What did I say about politicians?

At the very end, Spock says the Romulan Underground is trying to reach Vulcan Enlightenment. We'll see how much of that is the case in "Unification III".

And there we have it... Spock mentioned, reunification, what the Romulans are explained by Vance... all before the intro even! Looking good so far.

And there's Unification II as a holo recording!!! The goosebumps are taking over :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

They just did something that I said I wouldn't defend. And I'm not going to. I don't agree with it. But I guess it is what it is.

On another note: Great seeing the Ambassador Spock holo!

So that random commenter on TrekCore was right, what the fuck.

Like he was telling people who were disagreeing with them ‘wanna bet?’ He seemed that certain. I wonder if he had friends in the media with press copies.

It's not like this has never happened on Trek before. A maquis who dropped out of the academy after 2 years, who punched senior officers in the face got made the chief engineer of a starship, Wesley crusher got to fly the Enterprise and wear a uniform without actually having earned it.

Tilly being #1 was obvious from the interactions between her and Saru the past few episodes.

True. But this just seems so...unearned. Of all the people. She’s barely been an ensign for a year. She’s shown no evidence that she would be even remotely suited for the role, and there are a number of others who would be better suited. Ie Nilsson who has been in the command chair more often than even Burnham.

I love Discovery, I do...but this is just bizarre.

We still don’t know who the Chief Engineer or the Chief Medical Officer are, and a relatively-fresh ensign is the First Officer? The chain of command on the Discovery makes no goddamned sense to me.
