I only get annoyed when a poster spells the name wrong. "Micheal"
;)
Which is correct Michael or Micheal?
Mícheál is actually the Irish form of Michael while Mìcheal is the Scottish equivalent. In the Gaelic tongue, the “ae” is flipped to “ea” and is pronounced MEE-haul or MEE-hale. As it turns out, Micheal is a correct spelling of the name!
:nyah:

It should also be noted that Burnham goes through a lot more in two seasons (Captain and important person in her life dies partly through her own fault, she's stripped of rank and blamed for a war, her boyfriend turned out to be a murdering Klingon spy, her brother is accused of murder, Saru almost dies, she briefly finds her mother and loses her all over again and gives up literally everything in her life except for her bonds aboard Discovery to save the univrse) than Picard, who off the top of my head gets assimilated, loses his brother and nephew and whatever was going on in "The Inner Light".

If you mind Discovery's high density of events that would put one in emotional turmoil, that's fair enough. From my own viewing, I never thought that Burnham reacted unexpectedly or overly emotional to any of that, and I think that a bunch of criticism that Burnham gets for crying may be directed at a symptom, rather than at the core issue (of Discovery consisting of many events that can reasonably result in emotional turmoil for Burnham).

From a within-universe (Watsonian) perspective, you are correct. But from a real-world (Doylist) perspective, putting Michael through this heavy-ass shit repeatedly has exactly the same issue as seeing her cry repeatedly. It's coming back to the same dramatic well with the character again, and again, which - for some of us - results in a loss of emotional impact.

There are so many Surus, Troys, Rykers, Jordys, Spoks, Siscos, and Wharfs around that I'm beginning to be able to kinda ignore them a little... XD

I've been busy with an edit (and posting here while being a prisoner to the computer), but I finally re-watched this episode. Took longer than usual.

Something about the soundtrack stood out to me about this episode. I liked the use of the piano at a few points and -- at one point -- I noticed an organ.

We need to see Book's ship more often. If things pan out with Burnham the way I think they're going to pan out (her leaving Discovery to find out what caused The Burn), I think we will. That ship is too nice for just a few episodes.

It's a good episode, but nothing in particular pushes it passed that. So I give it a 7.

"El" is the root for "god" in Hebrew. Bethel, e.g., means "house of God," Ishmael means "heard-by-god."

Michael means "Who-is-like-god?"

Or, "who-is-like-god." period

This explains her being so good at everything.

:nyah:
What does God need a starship for? ;)

My only issue with her name being Michael is that before the series started they said her name being Michael would become important but it never really did. We're in season 3 and so far there's nothing special about the name. Then again, those original showrunners did leave midway through season 1.
Michael was an archangel.
Burham was part of an arc about an angel

and that’s fine. Still, haven’t you noticed that it happens way more than in past series? This can be fine for some, but it’s clearly annoying to some others. As you say, mileage may vary.
And if it bothers them so much why do they keep watching? I've been a Star Trek fan since 1969; yet I found janeway's character and other aspects of Star Trek Voyager so poorly written, I stopped watching the series regularly after the episode, "The 37s" which to me made TOS episodes like "And The Vhildren Shall Lead" seem like Shakespeare in comparison.

If you really don't like something why do you keep torturing yourself thinking you'll suddenly like it?

if you hate Star Trek Discovery stop watching and move on to something you do enjoy and make better use of your free time.

Sure, Picard has it easy, he never had life-altering experiences.

Right...and the piano piece at the beginning of Forget me Not worked really well too.

I don’t hate discovery. In fact this was the first episode this season I really didn’t like, with the season opener being a really great episode in my opinion.

To be precise, I liked *a lot* episodes 1,2 and 4, found 3 passable and didn’t like 5 and especially 6.

You know one can have criticism even while liking something?

. . . If you really don't like something why do you keep torturing yourself thinking you'll suddenly like it?

I did that with lower decks. But to answer your q. re DSC:

1. My wife likes it and I like doing things with her.
2. I like some aspects. Sorry for broken record, but I liked the first 2-3 eps of this season. Just like the last two seasons.
3. The quoted criticism above sounds like people who criticize those who are critical of some aspect of the US. "Well, go back to Russia, then, Commie!" One can like something and hope for it to be better.

I've been enjoying this season overall. Episode 4 in particular was fantastic. This episode though was meh. And even though I'm generally speaking enjoying the season on an episode-by-episode basis, I'm starting to get nervous regarding where the seasonal arc (both of the plot and Michael's character) is going.
