So, over in the B5 discussion, I mentioned Pat Tallman looked hot, and a mod told me he doesn't need to know 'who I masturbate to.' Here, we compliment an actress's attractiveness, and you also counter with gross mention of body fluids. The only adjective we used was 'hot' - a compliment used universally regarding males and females in the entertainment business (to whom looking good is part of the job). Seems to me you guys looking down your noses at us are being more vile and disgusting than you think we are.

She clearly wanted Picard, and being the gentleman that he is, he refused. But if Kirk was in his place, you just *know* he wouldn't have hesitated to oblige to her sexual urges.
You know what though? I don't think she was 100% evil. I think there was some good within her and perhaps, in time, she would've seen the error of her ways while in whatever prison she was in. I think of her as a Loki-type of villain.
My point is, I wish we had seen a follow-up episode where she redeems herself by helping Picard somehow.
But yeah, good or evil, I would let her rule me anytime!
When this thread first posted, I was concerned. It certainly is an objectification of a character but that character is a fictional being presented by a professional actor. As a heteronormative male, even at my advanced age, I can easily appreciate female beauty without needing to be demeaning toward an attractive woman. As long as posters in this thread refrain from overtly sexual comments, I'm content to let it continue. The thread about Troi in her uniform is also somewhat objectifying but again, a fictional character portrayed by a professional actress clearly hired in part for her physical beauty. Saying Troi looked great in her uniform, IMO, is saying that she presented an image of professionalism and competence. Which is exactly what she should have presented while on the bridge.
I have seen Edward Jellico both vilified and adored, and I think the truth is somewhere in between. But he was right about Deanna needing to dress like an officer on the bridge.

Even on Kirk's Enterprise everybody wore formal dress or work uniforms on the bridge and that man was about as laid back as any Starfleet Captain.
More evidence to back up my theory that we all stopped maturing at 14 and have been faking it ever since.

I had just watched that episode a few days ago.
She was a product of the times i.e. the Dynasty era of the shoulder padded power mad female who mixed sexuality with ruthlessness. I could image she would have been 'hot' in the eighties but not now. However, each to their own.
I agree with others that she would have been great as a Harry Mudd type recurring character.
Personally, I think drool is great... Even better, if the personality made up for the looks, and by looks is it facial structure, amount of visceral body fat, perception of other attributes, and so on...? How much does a good personality make up for the other individual aspects one might not be so hot to trot on? Then again, when someone giggles and calls their lover "Oh, you devil!", it's generally not in the most literal sense a la Fek'lar.
How do you think starfleet would have reacted if she was real?
I dunno I found her character kinda loud, vulgar and kinda annoying (I can see why they thought she might be a Q). And the actress isn't particularly attractive either.

If she had been real, and she really had signed that contract with Ventax in a legitimate way a thousand years ago, there would be very little the Federation could have done. Heck, if she had been real, there probably would have been little the Federation could have done, legitimate contract or not.
So I suppose they'd pity the Ventaxians, but otherwise shrug their shoulders about yet another extremely powerful entity that apparently doubled as a supernatural in their own past, like those Greek God aliens from TOS.

Couldn't they have made a case that the far away ancestors for the Ventaxians didn't have the legal right to sign away the possession and lives of their descendants?
Maybe they could have negotiated the option that Ardra returns the environmental devastation she supposedly healed to the planet, but otherwise grants them their freedom?
Sorry it's been months since I saw that episode.
Of course they could, but what if 'the devil' outright refused to accept that argument, and maintained that the contract is valid? I think there's still little Starfleet could do.
Also, let's not forget that the Ventaxians themselves seemed to consider it valid, despite their terror- until it was proved she was an impostor, that is. Then again, that could just show the ensnaring trap of beliefs instilled into them since childhood.

If Ardra's abilities were genuine (figure Q level or higher), and her hold on the planet legally irrefutable, there's really very little the Enterprise could have done. However, neither was true. Ardra was demonstrably not who she said she was, and her powers were limited to a cloaked ship that Enterprise was able to seize easily. So, either option would have worked.
