I can't say it enough:
Fuck canon.
Fuck canon.
Given that we don't know if it's true and more than likely it isn't, why not wait until we know for sure. Until then we're just discussing what's essentially fan fiction. Those who don't wanna discuss the possibility of the GoF appearing in Disco don't have to![]()
Obsession with canon is the single worst thing to happen to scifi fandom. It turned enjoyment into religious fanaticism.I can't say it enough:
Fuck canon.
Exactly so.Obsession with canon is the single worst thing to happen to scifi fandom. It turned enjoyment into religious fanaticism.
Has there ever been a poll on that? It's needless pandering to an insignificant few.
It is canon as long as you don't assume that sets and props themselves are canon and that we were told 100% of the information. It's a show, not a history book.Exactly so.
It also annoys me to no end that Kurtzman and the actors and such feel obligated to drop the "true to canon" tag every five minutes. It's needless pandering to an insignificant few.

But I stayed up all night cramming for the quiz!!!!!It is canon as long as you don't assume that sets and props themselves are canon and that we were told 100% of the information. It's a show, not a history book.
Who are these people? It's called "internal consistency" and it's important:

I've watched Star Trek my entire life, it is as consistent as any franchise that's been around for half a century. Obsessing over fine details is missing the forest for the trees. It's called "internal consistency" and it's important:

The only internal consistency any story is ever beholden to is that of its own creation. It's called "internal consistency" and it's important:

We've got a "News From Dubious Sources" thread in Future of Trek for just such a reason. We've had a few people here who said they know more about future episodes - so far they haven't mentioned any of this.
Why would we only discuss rumors and possibilities after the show airs? How long are the speculative threads about every single episode before the episode is actually released? XD
Star Trek is neither my religion nor my politics. If it sucks, I will stop watching. The glorified toy collectors of the Fandom Menace will not sway me either way. What are we going to do if it is as bad as he says though. What if it rewrites the old shows and makes it clear this isn't some alternate timeline. Those shows are gone for good? I mean do we at this point just go full in on head canon and accept nothing done by CBS is true canon and it's now it's own thing even if they insist it isn't?
