In that case, iBadge would make sense.I'm beginning to think they should call the new badge a MultiBadge, since it does just about everything.

I actually thought of "Multi" as an homage to the Multiciever, which was to be the new tricorder in Phase II before TMP came along and they stuck with the tricorder. In that case, iBadge would make sense.
It's called TriCom badgeI'm beginning to think they should call the new badge a MultiBadge, since it does just about everything.
And here's the official design:
The fact that it’s SO difficult to work out without getting clear, in focus close-ups or the images of the official designs is hardly a positive comment on the overall design ...!
ugh, pretty much: even here they’re mostly undistinguishable blobs until you zoom in close. The official images pretty much show just how indistinguishable the badges really are; glance at that image and they all look pretty much the same!!
. The two gold / two black that they show in the official images makes absolutely NO sense to me.
The other thing that is immediately obvious is that this is the first “official” rank scheme from any era of Trek, that I have seen, which includes not just the rank of Fleet Captain but an actual separate distinctive insignia for that grade as a separate rank.
It's been discussed.Anyone bothered by the fact that Discovery gets all these new gadgets and new tech, but the crew is still wearing old uniforms? Is there no standard in 32nd century and/or the style of uniforms is completely up to to each ship?
I agree. But the collar insignia don't make much sense either. Vance has 5 stripes and 5 dots on his shoulders but only 2 stripes and 5 dots on his collar. Senna Tal's uniform had 6 triangles on the shoulders and 2 triangles on the collar. Captains have two stripes and 4 dots, while Lieutenants only have 2 stripes.
BTW: What is the source of this official rank badges?
We're at the season's hump. Six episode's done, seven remaining. After next week it'll be seven done and six remaining.it’s going so fast! We’re already getting previews for episode 3x07...!
Ready RoomBTW: What is the source of this official rank badges?
Bothered? Not really. I imagine that Discovery is getting a special assignment, allowing them some dispensation from Saru.Anyone bothered by the fact that Discovery gets all these new gadgets and new tech, but the crew is still wearing old uniforms? Is there no standard in 32nd century and/or the style of uniforms is completely up to to each ship?

I have to say that, even with the combination of black and gold pips, the Fleet Captain badge is rather odd — given the use of the gold lower section, it looks like it should be significantly senior to Commodore, the apparent next grade up!
The uniforms thing will be mainly about the production team's decision to keep the Discovery crew in their established blue uniforms for aesthetic and audience-recognition purposes. There are any number of plausible in-universe reasons (crew integrity and morale, etc., etc., etc...) but ultimately that's not the primary driving force here.
They may chose to keep the Disco boys and girls in blue indefinitely but I suspect they might want to make a bit of a big "event" about changing them over to new uniforms at some point but the question is when -- end of this season? start of next season? Who knows...
This is gone be one of those things that its probably not with expending a lot of mental energy on. It is what it is and changes will happen when they happen!
