Spoilers Ah, the NEW uniforms...!

I guess they’ll keep the original Discovery uniforms for now.

It’s possible we might see them switch to the new uniforms at the end of this season or the start of next season but my guess, at the moment, is that they won’t change — or at least not yet.

The other thing we might see at some point is a re-dress of the Discovery ship sets to show some degree of refit and upgrade — or maybe even just a change of the lighting design in order to update the feel of the ship and make it brighter and lighter.

I don’t imagine any of that happening any time soon though.

.
Ya more stupid blinding light and lens flairs like the Fed base had.Thats just what Discovery needs

Things could go either way.

I could see the Discovery sets being refitted to stand in for the Enterprise sets in Strange New Worlds.

But Calypso showed us a near identical Discovery, abandoned, with the Zora AI and presumably the Sphere Data.

So Discovery could be retro-fitted in some areas, but not all - or not at all.

The Discovery crew, could even get a new 32nd Century ship, named Discovery NCC 1031-A - all new sets

I could see the "rebuild the Federation" story arc last over two seasons. As such, it might end with the construction and launch of a new Enterprise, and perhaps the introduction of an all-new, nostalgically colorful uniform? I could see the Discovery crew keeping their Blues till then.

My question is: are the uniforms programmable matter like the floors, chairs and everything else?
Probably not, in case there is a tech failure.

In a German novel series of the early 2000s, Sternenfaust, a Star Corps shuttle once crashed on a planet where nanites targeted any form over higher technology or produce and disassembled it. The landing party was left in their underwear, because that was made of plain cotton, whereas their leather-like uniform had been fashioned from advanced materials.

I think Zora won't allow Discovery to be destroyed. So a Discovery-A isn't in the cards.

the ship doesn't have to be destroyed to have a successor:shrug:
Having two ships with the same name in service at the same time would be a first. At least on-screen.

The Enterprise-C emerging in the alternate Enterprise-D's time in "Yesterday's Enterprise" notwithstanding.

Given that most of StarFleet previously thought the USS Discovery was dead, I wouldn't be surprised if the OG USS Discovery runs into USS Discovery-R somewhere out there.

To be honest what is the real difference between synthesized/replicated and programmable matter?
^^^
In the end it's the same result - a wearable piece of clothing. about the only thing you might be able to do with programmable matter that you couldn't do with a replicated uniform is the programmable matter could reconfigure into an EVA suit on the fly.

Not every ship name keeps the same registry as the original with letters added at the end. Indeed, before this week, the only prior examples were the Enterprise and Relativity. With the Yamato and Dauntless standing out as fakes which somehow managed to trick the crews who found them.
