Spoilers A nice opportunity

Unimatrix Q

With the appearance of the different founder homeworlds without a mention of the Dominion on the star charts seen in "Die Trying", which hints at the Founders possibly dissolving their empire and joining the Federation, there would be a great opportunity to bring back Salome Jens as the female founder.

Maybe this time as a "true believer" in the Federation after all this time...

I think making the Dominion a member of the Federation is a horrible idea, they're still on the other side of the galaxy and should still be a power to contend with. I doubt we will ever see them, but they should still be out there.

Which is why we constantly hear about them...it's baffling.
I agree on this. The idea, even from the producers, was that this jump forward so far in time was to afford them a blank slate for storytelling and new situations.

Although I would be interested in seeing what the Enterprise would look like, I'm more interested now in them telling some stories that aren't constrained by anything else in the timeframe.

It's like when it was mentioned about the Trill homeworld, all of a sudden people started thinking it was Dax. Um, the Trill kind of have a larger population than Dax.

Exactly. Tell us stories outside our regular frame of reference. Don't assume that every ship is just clamoring to be named "Enterprise" because centuries ago there was a ship named "Enterprise" that stuff and had fun some time in history.

Liking the Enterprise is fine. But Star Trek is about more than that, and creating a bunch of episodes that insular, protectionist and self-referential is not helpful to growing the brand.

Can I get picture of this chart? Apparently it mentions Delta Quadrant species like the Kazon as well.

Only if it makes sense in the story.
I wouldn't have had an issue if say in this weeks episode, to get the cure for the disease affecting the kieli, starfleet had to reach out to the vidiians. Discovery has to go because no ship can get that far in time or something. That would have been a nice call back.

I'm glad they left Earth behind as well. It's no longer the center of the universe.

As @fireproof78 said, as long as it makes sense in the story. I think small shout outs/easter eggs are fine (USS Nog), but otherwise everything needs to serve the story.

I will say, however, that I'd like for the species we've seen from the Gamma and Delta quadrants to be fair game to use in Disco. About a 1000 years in the future, there have been all kinds of opportunities/ways for "cross-pollination", if you will. The better the future tech, pre-Burn, the more likely the Hirogen found a way to expand into the Beta and Alpha Qs. No reason to limit them.

So yeah, if there's an episode featuring a Changeling, why not? But it doesn't have to be Salome Jens. The Dominion War wouldn't even need to be referenced. Andorians aren't limited to TOS, no reason Changelings should be limited to DS9, when the show that far in the future.

The Dominion war is almost 1000 years old, if its mentioned it will be for fanwank reasons.
Apart from history classes or the odd documentary I can tell you the average person in the U.K does not spend time talking about the Battle of Hastings in 1066, neither does the Ministry of Defence.

As others have said in the thread, the story should be and I'm hoping will be the main concern of the show, and whether or not characters from other timelines play a part better dang well fit into the storyline. I'm hoping we've gotten all the nostalgia out of our systems with the first two seasons, and this one can focus on telling a new story (albeit with some familiar species and perhaps some historical references).
