Congratulations to your 2020 "hunk of metal" (to use Rob Manfred's wording) championship winners!

I'm excited for a bunch of billionaires to claim that they're broke and can't spend money on players, and then watch a few teams sell for a billion dollars each.

It is going to be fun watching the various off-seasons.

Honestly, I'm still baffled at the notion of COVID test results not being available until the game is in progress, and I'm trying to imagine how badly Adam Silver and the NBA would get dragged if they let a player start Game 6 of the Finals with an inconclusive test (my ex-wife's uncle is an ED physician, and I remember him saying that standard protocol with infectious diseases is to immediately regard an "inconclusive" test as a positive until a new test is done), just to pull him out of the game when the 4th quarter started for being positive. The optics on this whole thing with Turner are pretty bad all around.

Tony La Russa is the new White Sox manager. They canned Ricky Renteria to hire a 76-year-old racist.

Reinsdorf said may years ago he regretted firing LaRussa back in 86.

I still wonder WTF went on with Renteria. I could see why the Cubs fucked him over for Maddon at the time, but he seemed to have the White Schlox going in the right direction.

I believe it was Hawk Harrelson who fired La Russa; Reinsdorf was more obsessed with the Bulls at the time.

Renteria has to be the unluckiest manager in baseball, getting fired twice after turning teams around.

I had completely forgotten anyone ever gave Harrelson a position of power, but I'd recently seen where Reinsdorf regretted the firing, so assumed it was him swinging the axe. It was in a story a week or two ago when LA gave permission for the Sox to interview LaRussa.

Reinsdorf fucking loves La Russa and always has. This hiring is a clear sign that he's in charge and is telling Hahn and Williams to sit down in their offices.

Jeff Passan reports that there are already "ruffled feathers" among executives in the White Sox front office.

La Russa, for example, felt that Fernando Tatis was in the wrong for swinging on a 3-0 pitch. He's an unwritten rules shithead.

Edit: Holy shit, based on the White Sox Twitter, they were going to go with AJ Hinch until Reinsdorf stepped in. https://twitter.com/GabeNotDave/status/1321903108604264448

If I'm Tim Anderson or Giolito I'm on the phone with my agent immediately demanding a trade.
