Such a bizarre choice. He's 76. Even if he catches lightning in a bottle and team moves forward, you're tying the prime of a young core to a manager that is going to be around for two years, three tops.
I think the question is how is a 76 year old man, who is obviously set in his ways, going to relate to a clubhouse full of twenty something players?
Edit: Holy shit, based on the White Sox Twitter, they were going to go with AJ Hinch
For once can these people actually take some freaking accountability for their actions?
This is a sport whose teams are owned by old white guys, and whose front offices are run by generally old white guys. What does your heart tell you?

Poorly?
Mets place qualifying offer on Marcus Stroman. He should immediately sign that $18.9 million dollar offer.

The Cubs picked up their option on Anthony Rizzo. I imagine this is a precursor to letting Lester walk and then trading Bryant, since Rizzo has been the PR face of the franchise for ages and Grandpa Rossy fucking loves him.
I think they already declined Lester’s option.
They declined Lester's option but fed a piece into the Chicago Tribune saying they'd "talk" about a possible new deal. The reality is that Lester's cooked, he's a #3 starter at best and he wants to live closer to his Atlanta home (and he'd square in pretty well at the back end of the Braves' rotation). The Cubs will say they gave him a $12 million "we tried" offer, let him go and then trot out a rotation of ... shit, Hendricks / Darvish / Mills / Adzolay /
some shitty FA pickup like Gio Gonzalez.
Agreed that Lester is beyond help. If Lester refuses to adjust his game (the way Darvish did) and refuses to go to the bullpen (if that's an option), he should be allowed to move on if another team wants that kind of inconsistency.
Lester would be a legitimately great back-of-the-pen reliever. He can go for two innings and still has a few pitches that can fool batters. I think he's going to insist on starter money, though, and I think he's probably gone from Chicago.
Pirates decline $11 million dollar option on Chris Archer. His star definitely dimmed quickly.
