Dinosaur in 69,000,000 B.C.: "Keith? Yeah, he's been around for ages. Started the first rock band with actual rocks."

Terrible. The worst episode of Trek ever!
It felt like I was watching season 5 of Andromeda when they ruined the format and had awful planet based stories. If I wanted to watch a Star Wars show I'd subscribe to Disney plus.

Has Burham got temporal narcosis? Why does she keep screaming like a banshee? The only good thing about it was the SFX and the still come on this season teaser.

Very disappointed, but hopefully it'll improve. I can't imagine it can be any worse.
Did you watch Threshold from Voyager... that is the worst episode of Star Trek ever

I thought that deaging with the transporter only worked because they had a very recent previous "normal" transport to work with?

I would imagine that keeping stuff like that "on file" for the entire crew would be a bit more than even the starships computer could handle.

I also seem to remember that the two times it was used it was considered a long shot.
Meaning that it might not have worked for just anybody who wasn't a "Main Member" of the cast.

I am looking forward to (hopefully) catching up with the Discovery next week. I'd prefer they pick up from the time they arrive, not just the time when they meet up with Burnham again.

I think it's possible that the time that Discovery arrives WILL be the time they meet up with Burnham (or at least close to it).

I think the writers already planted the seeds of that idea when Burnham and Book mentioned that the Discovery might not arrive at the same time as Burnham, and instead arrive anytime between now and a long time from now. A bit of dialogue between the two about Discovery arriving was this:

"Then by the laws of temporal mechanics,
they could arrive tomorrow or in a thousand years."

I think it's possible that they mentioned this because it might be a while (months? a year? a couple of years?) before Discovery arrives. So maybe the Discovery will meet up with Burnham pretty much right after they arrive, but they might not arrive for a while.

Of course, if this happens we likely won't see Burnham go through all that time; I'm assuming the story will soon (maybe by the end of Part 2 of the season premiere) move forward to the time Discovery arrives, and give us a quick idea of what Burnham was doing during that time.

I wonder if de-aging wouldn’t fall under the ban on genetic engineering. You have to be put back together the way you were, or at least as you “should” be.

What if the DISCOVERY arrived first or at the exact same time, but in another part of the galaxy?

From the trailers it seems that Saru and the Crew have a bit of an adventure themselves before meeting up with Burnham.

Thank you @RAMA! Something else to talk about. Anything else!

I'm calling it now: I think The Burn and the Temporal War are directly connected to each other. I think whatever happened at the end of the Temporal War led to The Burn. That's why time travel was banned.

Both of them take place too close to each other to be a coincidence.
I don't think there is a connection. Maybe someone took advantage of the lack of temporal police, but I don't think so really. And no way that the Federation had a hand in it (as some other posters have hypothesized). At best, I think the writers/show runners just wanted to set DIS season 3 after the last thing we have yet seen in Trek (at least this is according to Anthony at TrekMovie), and so that is when they sett the timing of The Burn.

So... Why was the guy at the station spending all his time sitting at a desk instead of doing repairs?

He has been doing more than that. He has been helping anyone who comes asking for Federation assistance; holding the candle.

That's 99.9 % of all Trek tech. It has Earth shaterring implications and will never be discussed again. The Federation is shown to be reluctant to automate everything, and installing back ups upon back upon because they are concerned with failure. And, given the whole Control and M5 debacle who can blame them?

Yeah you have a point there. I mean: they didnt have to give them AI...

Anyway. One probably should not give them shit for not forseeing that drones one day become a thing. On the other hand they underuse some in univese technologies like the transporter for example. This concept is so broken, one should think they use transporters and replicators for everything.....but nope.

Discovery has shown other drone tech working in the background to clean the ship (notably after Culber and Tyler's mess hall fight in Season 2). There are probably a lot of automated cleaning and repair tech that we just don't see. But, overall, the damage and the technology/resource base requirements to repair the station probably aren't in existence any more after the devastation of the Burn, at least not at the relatively backwater world that Hima seems to be.

Is there still a ban on genetic engineering? I mean, when you look at what Book can do...

And even if the Fed still had such a ban, they're in no power to enforce it.
