Premiere episode was okay. Though I was more interested in the sort of advanced community set up more so than I was in any of the storylines involving the young group. I'm not saying I disliked the youths, at the moment I'm mostly apathetic towards them, but I found the community itself, which though not exactly up to pre-apocalypse standards, does seem to be more advanced than anything seen so far in Walking Dead or on Fear. We probably could have spent a few more episodes there, IMO, though seeing everyone slaughtered at the end does open story avenues into the Helicopter People.

For the time being I'm interested enough to keep watching.

And why is it just Carol and Daryl? Is it because the communities have collapsed, or just because they're not needed anymore? I really hope it's the latter. I'd really hate to see all that rebuilding go to waste yet again.

The last popular characters the showrunners can milk is the likely answer. Its sort of like the Rick movies (if that ever happens); Rick is the face of the show, but when Lincoln wanted to bow out, instead of just having a season arc where Rick, Michonne and their kids decide to move to another community, they had to turn it into another event. A spin-off is no different in this case, and after the wealth of development Carol and Daryl had over the past 10 seasons, sticking them in some isolated area / road show is a waste. It is essentially what happened to Morgan, and no matter how interesting Morgan could/can be, Fear the Walking Dead is--ultimately--a hit and miss series. The real fear should be in the showrunners' hearts if their spin-off just drives Daryl and Carol into the ground--a state of TV worthlessness.

Did the Civic Republic Military kill off the Campus Colony or was it an aftermath of a zombie attack that the CRM was dealing with ?

I think latter was the reason. One of the Walkers we saw was the one painted blue, which was supposed to be used in tracking migration patterns of walkers.

Now, did it happen when the kids left the door open on the way out, some other breach, or someone did it on purpose. Not sure why they would want to destroy the place after 10 years. There's Portland and this colony and where the CRM is based.

Question is... who are the 3 circles representing? The CRM, the Commonwealth and independent colonies?

Neither character really likes being around lots of other people.

Hell, I think it was what...Season 8, where Carol was trying to live alone in a small house just poutside 'The Kingdom' and wanted nothing to do with anyone.

Daryl too, has always been more of a loaner when push comes to shove and Carol is pretty much the only person he's really 'let in' emotionally.

So yeah, those to deciding the 'rebuilt/rebuilding of society as it stands in the Zombiie Apocalypse just isn't for them and they're going to go off an find a quiet place to live in 'peace' for their remaining days (and of course NEVEDR being successful at that UNTIL the series ends.

This is how I'm hoping it will go.

The walking dead world beyond debuted with 1.61 million. For comparison, fear the walking dead debuted with 10.13 million. With world beyond getting an even worse response than fear, I am not sure if it will even live for the 2 seasons it's designed for.

And there is no way in hell that the Rick movies will be theatrical at this point. Hardly anyone cares.

Since they wrapped on season 1... even if the rating stink, they will need that 2nd season to transition to the rick movies, right?

Well... I hope we find out what side the Colonel is really on. Wonder if she has been playing them all along. Like, maybe some of the messages have actually been from her.

I am just trying to think why she would want an inexperienced person trying to venture out across the country ? She seemed glad they escaped whatever happened in the colony.

The three circles represent CRM, as indicated in this episode with various references to the "three superpowers" and "the Alliance of Three" of which Campus Colony was apparently a protectorate of.

Having lived in the area in which all these events are happening for nigh on 40 years (Northern Virginia), I've always found it amusing that we're supposed to believe that they were in Alexandria and it was a hop-skip-and-jump quickie to get out to Culpepper and back on a horse-driven minivan chassis.

I forgot to finish my message. The original TWD is filmed in Georgia...but for WOrld Beyond, they advertising tells us it is in Virginia. But i also felt it ironic that for the original to be about locations in Virginia, they didn't go there...and now when they DO film there, it is to represent Nebraska.

And re: the CRM... what are the pillars do each circle represent? Is it that military + "enforcers" like Virginia's group in Fear and "normal" people like the COlony and Portland?

So the first episode wasn't bad. It's basically TWD:CW. I knew what I was getting into. The voiceovers were kind of cringy and the characters are kind of bland, but I will continue watching. I think they could have benefitted from an extended first episode.

I know they were trying to be creative by incorporating Hope's artwork in her dreams... but it looks more like Diary of a Wimpy Kid rather than a blend into reality (like, say the legendary A Ha video of the 80s)

The CRM is the only thing that interests me... if none of the kids die, that will be, well pathetic. Most likely it will be the white sister, if at all. (They need SOME ONE to die, and quickly, to help teach them reality)

Its not a compelling storyline at all. The idea of a group or society functioning like the pre-ZA as its base premise should have been a sub-plot on TWD as early as season 5 (the same season as Terminus, Grady Memorial and the introduction of Alexandria), not this far into the in-universe timeline. I watched the pilot...and its just a show in somewhat-WD trappings. Someone has to ask "what was the real point of this?"

And there is no way in hell that the Rick movies will be theatrical at this point. Hardly anyone cares.

Such is the problem when Gimple, et al., are so arrogant to think they are moving up to the majors--movies. If that's where they want to go, draining a franchise close to ending is not the way to do it. The Rick movies would be best served on AMC, where it belongs, and its free of any covid complications.

So, yeah, the second episode really wasn't all that good at all. The youths the show is focusing on really aren't particularly compelling characters at all. and worse yet they are completely stupid. I mean, I know making dumb mistakes is sort of a thing that goes on in the other two Walking Dead shows quite frequently, and in this case, these are supposed to be characters who lived incredibly sheltered lives, even during a zombie apocalypse and as a result are not prepared for fighting zombies, but sweet shit. It's one thing to be unprepared, it's quite another to be completely unqualified. Really, I'm not sure how this can possibly end without the whole lot of them dying horribly from incompetence.

The subplot with the two older security officers searching for them with flashbacks interspersed showing the guy's teenage years dealing with parents who turned their backs on him because he was gay was slightly interesting but not enough to salvage this episode. This show is not off to a strong start at all.
