It would make no sense if it was the exact same character.

Well, obviously I'm not expecting them to reference ASM2 plot points. I'm saying please don't let it be the same *performance*/*characterization* as in ASM 2. Because that was hands down the worst Spider-man villain ever and the worst role Foxx ever had.

Wow, that is very unexpected news. Honestly, if this didn't come from a source as reputable as The Hollywood Reporter, I'd be calling bullshit.
I'm curious if it'll be same version showing up through a multiverse crossover or a new version. The JJJ in Far From Home and possibly 3 is different from the version he played in the Maguire/Raimi movies, so there is precident for them casting a returning actor as a new version of the same characters.

Say WHAT?!

I doubt they'll retread the entire AMS2 origin with the nerdy caricature. Maybe have him already be established and vaguely hint that he was a geek before the accident

With the Multiverse being introduced, it would make sense, actually
Maybe. It’s certainly possible. But J.K. Simmons played a different version of Jameson.

Either way never expected this. I have still not seen Amazing Spider-man 2. I have long been a supporter of giving actors 2nd shots at playing comic book characters. Regardless if they are tied to the previous continuity. Noel Neill was the first actress to play Lois Lane in live action, in the movie serials staring Kirk Alyn. When Superman became a tv series all roles were recast. But for the 2nd Phyllis Coates choice not to return as Lois and Noel was brought in. No need for explaining it.

EDIT they can have it both ways. Him playing a new version of Electro would suggest there are other versions of him in the Multiverse too. Like what the Flash did with all the different doppelgängers John Wesley Shipp has played. Or specific to Marvel JK Simmons already as 2 different J Johan Jamesons

I mean, I didn't mind it. Sandman and Venom in the third Rami film, the Lizard in the first ASM were much worse for my part. Mileage will vary. But, my exposure to Electro was mainly in the cartoon and I found that characterization to be so irritating that I turned the episode off.

Jamie Foxx is reprising his role from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Max Dillon / Electro in the third MCU Spider-Man film!
Wow. That's not something I ever expected to happen.

If he's merely playing Electro in general, I have no problem with it. He's an excellent actor and the character can be interesting if done right, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 completely squandered both of them.

Different strokes. I'd give you Venom as the second worst by a hair, but Lizard was just mediocre to me and I actually liked Sandman.

My guess is a new interpretation from the same actor. Actors love playing characters from new angles. It keeps things fresh for them. If the film makers and Jamie Fox want to use the Multiverse as a hand wave to avoid offending Marc Webb or force Fox to publicly say he can do better this time - why not?

Can we get Willem Dafoe in a more comic accurate Green Goblin costume too???!!!

Fair enough. Electro I at least understood better.

That would be my guess too.

At least come back as Norman Osborn.

But J.K. Simmons played a different version of Jameson.

On a different note about JJJ, I understand why they had him become a fringe TV host, rather than a Editor. With the collapse of newspapers, it makes sense to rethink their roles in some of the characters lives. Peter being a newspaper photographer isn't as vital to his story as Clark Kent being a Reporter.

Well they gave Ryan Reynolds a second go at it, and look how that panned out!
Alternatively, this *could* be a multiverse thing. I kinda hope not because of all the other potential non-MCU Marvel movie pulls, why go with ASM2's Electro?!

Yeah, the whole angle of Peter getting buy selling exclusive photos of Spider-Man just doesn't work in the era of smart phones and CCTV.

The closest analogy one might get would be to make Peter a youtube vlogger...which they kinda-sorta touched on with his little auto-biographic documentary. That couldn't go any further while he was still trying to keep his identity secret, but now he's been outed it might actually get released.

I thought he was vlogger, not a TV host?
