Very few rules in our little game, RubySlippers - and welcome, by the way! - but it's customary to let others guess before submitting two guesses in a row.
    :bolian::beer:

But in any case (and that was a heck of a guess that I never even thought of, BTW) . . .

It's hard to believe that I can be so moved by the touch of an incorrect guess.

    1. Like the leader of the opposition, I am well-schooled in wartime pleasantries and diplomacy.
    2. My boss gives me a satisfactory job appraisal.
    3. Were this a different era, long ago when such things were commonplace and the galaxy was a savage place, my behavior could be considered antisocial, perhaps even subject to an anti-stalking provision.
    4. I commit a mostly irrelevant error.
    5. I find a cozy hiding place for my target.
    6. Both my combatant and I believe that the other is engaging in conjecture, a suggestion mutually expressed quite politely, which stems from our discourse alluded to in the first clue.
    7. Two aliens (to me, anyway) talk exclusively and tersely about me from a pretty close distance. Hey! I'm right here!

I dunno, I think that the issuing of a new clue should reset the counter. RubySlipppers shouldn't have to politely wait for another poster after a new clue is given. Especially give that there were more than 24 hours between the two posts.

At least the poster is guessing; on this one I have no clue (and will probably kick myself when I see the answer.)

    The Horta?
I guess the 'boss' could be the Horta that left the responsibility to this current Horta, and the leader of the (temporary) opposition could be Kirk?

Not at all and as I mentioned it's just custom. BK613 is right that I haven't been running this one very speedily. We are really glad to have you in here and participating. In a faster edition of the "game" it would show up more if you were jumping in consecutively, and I should have made that distinction. Very glad you're here and please stick around!!

Points well-taken. Oh, so you won't guess unless you're sure, eh?;)

He and Kirk are pretty civil when they speak.

    2. My boss gives me a satisfactory job appraisal.

Not sure. Do we hear him make mention of this?

    3. Were this a different era, long ago when such things were commonplace and the galaxy was a savage place, my behavior could be considered antisocial, perhaps even subject to an anti-stalking provision.

I mean he follows Kirk all over the place on that planetoid.

    4. I commit a mostly irrelevant error.

Not sure. Letting Kirk escape from his trap maybe.

    5. I find a cozy hiding place for my target.

And comes out to get Kirk when he's tangled up.

    6. Both my combatant and I believe that the other is engaging in conjecture, a suggestion mutually expressed quite politely, which stems from our discourse alluded to in the first clue.

Both blame the other for the conflict.

    7. Two aliens (to me, anyway) talk exclusively and tersely about me from a pretty close distance. Hey! I'm right here!

Kirk and the Metron talking about him with him laying right there.

    8. I am the recipient of one of the most mindblowingly awesome moves ever delivered.

Oh, there are so many awesome examples of Kirk Fu here that any one could be named not to mention the bamboo cannon at the end.

    1. Like the leader of the opposition, I am well-schooled in wartime pleasantries and diplomacy.
Part of the Andorian diplomatic contingent.

    2. My boss gives me a satisfactory job appraisal.
AMBASSADORr SHRAS: He is Thelev, a minor member of my staff. I know nothing of him except that he has served adequately.

    3. Were this a different era, long ago when such things were commonplace and the galaxy was a savage place, my behavior could be considered antisocial, perhaps even subject to an anti-stalking provision.
IDK, other than he eavesdrops on the Sarek/Tellarite argument and then murders the Tellarite. And then stalks and shanks Kirk.

    4. I commit a mostly irrelevant error.
Didn't quite calculate the poison dosage correctly.

    5. I find a cozy hiding place for my target.
    Tellarite-in-a-Tube

    THELEV: Speculation, Captain.
    ...
    KIRK: You speculate.

    7. Two aliens (to me, anyway) talk exclusively and tersely about me from a pretty close distance. Hey! I'm right here!
Spock and the Andorian Ambassador, talking outside the brig in front of the Orion (sneaky clue)

    8. I am the recipient of one of the most mindblowingly awesome moves ever delivered.
    Not a headbutt but a Kirkfu butt-to-the-head

    *You* speculate.

    ;)

Wow!! That was a really, really good, set of answers - and details - that totally fit seven of the eight clues (everything except the "boss" one, #2). That is amazing! Nice job, Poltargyst. Impressive.

Oh, and, uh, er [puts on iridescent eyes and hisses]:

I'm weary of the guessing. Wait for me. I shall be merciful and quick.

[tinny voice, kinda sounds like James Doohan]

Man must not risk guessing or other dangerous occupations.

    And . . .

Correct, @BK613 ! Very good explanations as well! I've always thought the Thelev/Kirk scene on the bridge had absolutely fantastic acting and dialogue. And more often than not (with "not" being the last two instances of the game when I tossed, the Denevan pilot and Isis, so perhaps never mind) my adoration for Star Trek's dialogue drives my inspiration here, so maybe file that away (or don't, as you like).

Clue 1 was meant to indicate this. I mean, here's Kirk talking to a dude who just tried to run him through and in fact hurt Kirk about as seriously as he was ever injured during the series (save perhaps the stoning in TPS), and Kirk and Thelev are coolly exchanging velvet-glove-iron-fist pleasantries right next to each other as Thelev's people try to destroy everyone aboard the Enterprise. The politeness and civilty to one's adversary, even in war, was remarkable and maybe there was a message there.

Clue 3 had a hidden subclue - admittedly not that precise in retrospect - with the use of the word "stalk," as Thelev's antisocial behavior in the brig causes him to get stunned and then one of his fake antennae (arguably a "stalk") falls off, hence "anti-stalking." Clue 6 and its use of the word "stems" was a similar hint. Clue 7 alludes to ANOTHER fabulous scene with incredible acting and dialogue between Spock and Shras as Thelev glares at them.

You nailed everything else so closely I'm looking over my shoulder, frankly. And I'll probably never watch JTB again without laughing hard at "Tellarite-in-a-tube"! Great job.

BK613 - you have the conn!

@Phaser Two Thelev is one of those characters that I wish somehow could have been recurring. Thanks for an annoyingly great set of clues.

I eliminate the imposs.....well you know.

Oh, right; that would have been fantastic. A male Orion, and quite a sinister - yet polite - one at that. Since the Andorians (using Star Trek only, which basically means Reggie Nalder's terrific Shras portrayal and not other series' depictions) seem to have had much the same disposition, he apparently fit right in. The Vulcan-Andorian discussion between Spock and Shras was one of those little touches that truly makes Star Trek great.

When BK's answer to Clue 8 was Kirk's awesome flying butt attack, I knew he was right. You just can't beat an awesome flying butt attack.

Yeah, exactly. That clue was me saying, "Okay, these people have come up with some really good guesses and it's been fun, but no reason to overstay my welcome." I didn't think it would go much longer after that. I even thought about saying something like "I am the butt of many jokes after a mindblowing move," etc. BUT (ahem), you know, decorum and all.
