News Lower Decks is self-censored

People were thinking this was a mandate by CBS?

Yeah, what the (bleep)? This doesn't make any (bleep)ing sense.

Although I am curious if they record those unbleeped and censor later, or if they use placeholder words and censor those. An "unbleeped" version would be impossible (barring an expensive re-record of select lines) with the latter.

No surprise. Pretty sure that Discovery and Picard both had uncensored F bombs. Why censor one and not another?

Dropping F-bombs doesn't fit the tone of Lower Decks and bleeping them out is funnier.

Lower Decks also wants to call back to the tone of TNG, DS9, and VOY. Discovery and Picard don't. Picard, especially, wants to fight it. Each of these shows are different by design. They want to be tonally different from each other.

I was wondering. I'd love it if they had the option of the listening to the unbleeped tracks (or more precisely, episodes sans the bleeps) on Blu-ray. But there is an element of humor in the bleeping, one that is probably dependent upon having watched TV with dialog bleeped out, so I do get why it ads to the level of humor to bleep it.

I think there is a whole YouTube channel dedicated to adding unnecessary bleeps to perfectly in innocent scenes of movies and tv shows to make them sound dirty and funny.

Taylor Swift did it in a music video too.

And, yeah, I think it's part of the humor of it and didn't think CBS mandated anything. Just part of the tone.

And finally, honestly, who cares?

Have you seen the topics that get discussed on TrekBBS? We discuss how Star Trek episodes are made, and what sorts of decisions that creators, writers, directors, producers make during that process. The origin of the bleeps accordingly is something that the people who post here care about.

I'm more amused some thought CBS mandated it.

Jimmy Kimmel has a whole weekly bit called "Unnecessary Censorship"..........it's pretty funny some weeks.

When I worked in local TV, I used to be in charge of making a video for the station's Christmas party; usual on air bloopers and cheesy crap like that. Some of the biggest laughs I got where I "bleeped," the innocent stuff making the viewer's mind go to a dirty place.

So yeah, what others ahead of me have already said, for a show like this; bleeping makes it funnier.
