Late to the party but I just saw the 2020 teaser trailer from July. "Winner of 46 film festival awards [...] The final two instalments of the Axanar legacy".

"The sheer..."
Yeah, oy. I have a friend who's an indie filmmaker (not on the BBS). His film is making the rounds of the festival circuit. He pays his own way. He wins some stuff. He loses some stuff. His film was an official selection of the 2019 Golden State Film Festival with a screening at Grauman's Chinese Theatre (which I think has been renamed).

I have never seen him put his hand out for $. He promotes his film, of course. And yes, he talks about it a lot. But I have never, ever seen him ask for money.

We interrupt this thread for a pedantic update: Grauman's is now known as TCL Chinese Theatres. TCL (The Creative Life) is a Chinese electronics manufacturer. The 10 year naming agreement started in 2013. I gather that the original Chinese Theatre has been renovated and is the centerpiece of a movie complex. Now back to our regular scheduled programming....

Thank you. I saw Algis (my pal) refer to it both ways. You have now touched my overly pedantic heart.

Alec did A Few Good Men during his acting class:

Wow, one acting class. I guess all of those people who spend their whole lives mastering the art have been wasting their time when all it takes is one class to make you worthy of being the lead actor in a movie.

To be fair, it can be done well. For example, fourteen year-old singer-song writer Grace Vanderwaal had the lead roll in Disney's STARGIRL. She had no acting classes and almost zero experience (a fifth-grade school play hadn't counts). Of course, Disney surrounded her with professional actors and crew and a very supportive director.

Oh, I know it happens sometimes, I was just joking.

After taking a basic acting course, I can say that taking direction is a great asset for beginning actors. I wasn't great at the beginning, but got better as we went along (Olivier's ghost can still rest easy). The problem is that you have to be willing to put aside your ego and trust your director. Could it be that I've put my finger on the problem?

Axanar website has "A Correction, Retraction and Clarification" about why they terminated Paul Jenkins:
https://axanar.com/why-axanar-terminated-paul-jenkins/
Don't give him clicks. In summary...

[...]Paul Jenkins has undertaken a legal campaign to force Axanar to abandon the film footage shot under his direction [...]

[...]has accused me of libeling him in various messages and venues online and in our video streams on “Axanar After Dark.” Paul claims, through his lawyer, that I stated that Paul is “a liar”/is “lying”; is “unprofessional”; is “not smart”; has engaged in “behavior totally unacceptable”; is a “wannabe director”; is an “amateur director”; has “never worked in Hollywood”; “failed to do the work”; and is “screwing the[ fans].” [...] claimed these statements were made on Axanar After Dark # 94 and 99 (our regular video live stream), yet a complete review of both episodes, shows no such statements.[...]

What about all the other places you say shit?

[...] 1) I believe that Mr. Jenkins was mistaken, recklessly uninformed, or knowingly incorrect in his public statements contending to own a copyright interest in the screenplay [...] recent copyright registrations claiming to be the sole author of the dialog added to my original script [...] is brazenly false. [...]

None of you should be Copyrighting anything on this thing.

2) Mr. Jenkins sent an email to me dated May 18, 2020, that I considered to be unprofessional and totally unacceptable[...]

What's good for the goose...

3) I believe that Mr. Jenkin’s derogatory public statement dated August 9, 2020, was unprofessional and totally unacceptable.

ibid.

[...]4) Mr. Jenkins did not complete the required work of “director” [...] he had not provided me with “director’s selects” [...] nor did he do any work to complete the VFX with our VFX team[...]

Was the scope of work understood?

[...]5) It is my understanding that Mr. Jenkins did not have professional experience as a film director [...]

[...]6) It is my understanding that that Mr. Jenkins did not have professional experience working on Hollywood film productions [...]

Says the pot of the kettle.

8) I believe that Mr. Jenkin’s derogatory statements, copyright registrations in the Axanar fan film production, and legal threats against me are a vindictive effort [...]

ibid.
