Sept 8 trailer

I get that, but I'm also realistic about how great civilizations rise and fall. Nothing is truly infallible. That doesn't mean what came before no longer matters just because in hundreds of years it went downhill. That's a very nihilistic viewpoint to take. It always matters, especially when it comes to picking one's self up.
I think that many are missing out on the more fairy tale style stores of 90s Trek and even the TOS style films ("second star to the right; and straight on 'til morning"). But, you are quite right that the Federation was never going to be forever but seeing it happen is probably less appealing.

Even Berman Era Trek hinted the future Federation could collapse because of external influences or attacks or not even exist at all because of the same. This kind of ties in with some future glimpses we've seen of humanity and the Federation from alternate timelines that were avoided or repaired.
It's one thing to have it hinted at and another to see it done.

I hope Matt Winston has a cameo as Daniels. 3188 is within 100 years or so of where he came from(sometime in the 31st century) and being a Temporal Agent as well as time traveler it wouldn't be too difficult to rationalize his presence in the Season 3 DSC timeline.

This worries me. If we have a whole season and then they go back and "fix" things so none of it happened... I will not be a happy bunny.

That sounds like Season 5 of Agents of Shield. That might be what they are going with, and then they come back by like episode 7 and the rest of the season is to prevent it from happening.

Precisely so. The Federation's past good doesn't change because some calamity hits it and causes destruction.
It would be like saying that building a house was rendered pointless because a hurricane many decades later brought it down anyway. Nope. If people lived the best years of their lives in that house then it was always worth it.

If it's revealed that the cataclysmic event happened because Daniels accidentally spilled coffee on his time travel wristwatch I wouldn't be at all shocked. In fact, it's exactly the kind of screw up I'd expect of him.

This looks like great fun.

I am really enjoying how jubilant and full of energy SMG seems as Michael in these clips.

One of the reason Michael really wore on me as a character is that she's just...so much. Like that friend of yours who calls you up after every breakup and needs to talk about themselves for five hours straight, while periodically bursting into tears.

Seeing Michael genuinely having fun makes me think the season will be...well...fun.

As an aside, what the heck is that alien talking to Saru around the middle of the trailer? I'm guessing he's supposed to be a hybrid between a human and something very different.
