Sept 8 trailer

I thought he might be part human and part Kelpien, a distant descendant of Saru's people?

DANIELS: "You early Starfleet crews are more trouble than I can handle."

SARU: "What does that mean?"

DANIELS: "Nothing."

Meanwhile at Starfleet Temporal HQ, 33rd century.

OFFICER: "Doctor, I've detected something unusual in the space time continuum."

DR. ZIMMERMAN (as played by Robert Picardo): "Yes Ensign, what is it?"

OFFICER: "It seems the past has been tampered with. A lot of temporal waves coming from the vicinity of this sector."

DR. ZIMMERMAN: "What's the cause?"

OFFICER: "Seems one of our agents spilled coffee on their temporal wristwatch."

DR. ZIMMERMAN: "This is so absurd! Who's the agent?"

OFFICER: "Daniels, sir."

DR. ZIMMERMAN: *Signature Picardo exasperation* "Looks like a cleanup job, boys. Let's get this done quickly. I have an opera I'd actually like see during the present time."

They're not really revealing much....which is good.

I'm gonna guess they're at the edge of what was Federation space and that the Federation, Earth, Starfleet etc essentially still exist, they just contracted. I am really tired of everything being galaxy wide threats though, which sounds like what it is here.

"Dysfunction aside, you make a pretty good team."
Reno: "Dsyfunction is the team."
Stamets: "We've just... accepted it."
Reno (sotto voce): "No, we haven't."

This was my favorite exchange in the whole thing, me and my best friend both laughed out loud. Not to mention: Burnham being visibly happy multiple times, even bursting out with excited joy over learning she's not alone on that planet? I was so happy to see her finally opening up. She's certainly come a long way.

Overall, I liked that it seemed to set up a message of relighting the flame of hope from its embers in a dark time. I still maintain this is the kind of "we can change the world" message we need to see in today's turbulent times as opposed to the escapism of a perfect utopia already having solved every single problem with only the most nebulous of explanations given for it. Also, the knowledge of the Federation's fall doesn't invalidate any of the previous shows for me. Saying this would be like watching a movie about heroic Romans trying to save the empire from a threat and complaining that none of it matters because Rome is going to fall to Odoacer in 476 AD anyway. A civilization might fall, but their achievements won't disappear without a trace. It's never a wiped-clean slate, and it looks like the future portrayed in Discovery won't be like that either.

Anyone else notice Captain Saru with the gold shoulders?
YEP, 4 pips on his badge too

I think we'll be getting a new intro or at least a heavily modified version of the old one. Similar to what they did with the fourth season of DS9. The status quo of the series changed, so the intro changed with it.

A nice touch is that now that DSC no longer takes place in the 23rd Century, the sub-title doesn't have what we think of as the "23rd Century" font anymore.

If they play up the Reno/Stamets friendship I will be happy. I really enjoyed their chemistry in Season 2.

Trailer is looking cool! Love the new logo using the Eurostile font from the ship's livery. :bolian:

Granted, as fans we are going through this with a fine-tooth comb, but I almost feel like they are giving away too much too soon. Saru is ending up as captain, Burnham and Book are going to have a romantic relationship and the crew ends up joining the new version of Starfleet. I just hope there's still stuff to be revealed.

Was this trailer put out in a hurry? At the 1:29 minute mark you can see a greenscreen without effects for a split second …

Scoring the new logo a 10/10.

It really works for me too. A new direction, a new logo.

...Intrigued by the Booker character.

Yeah, he's going to be my new favorite character, I can already tell...

And of course the aforementioned Grudge the cat.

What a happy Star Trek Day.

Just rewatching the trailer, and, at about 1:06 during the "welcome to the future" bit, a few seconds after Saru's captain shoulder stripes, do I see Burnham wearing gold again? Looks like she's officially going to be first officer under Saru. I even looked up screencaps from Season 2 just to confirm she kept wearing silver right up to donning the Red Angel suit and going to the future.

I wonder how they are going to address that the Federation collapsing to anything short of Q is impossible by even just the 26th century...

@00:42, Saru doesn't have the extra gold on the shoulders yet. They're there @1:00 and beyond.

Michael has gold and silver, so the scenes are in a pretty random order from multiple episodes no doubt.
