To be fair, though, the Psi 2000/Polywater Introxication isn't a virus it's an impact on water molecules in the body under high gravity that causes an alcohol-like effect on those affected, it's just... "somehow" spread through some kind of contact and can be treated by medicinal means.

But this is twice now someone has come onto the ship with an actual infection from a foreign source that wasn't filtered out by the transporters and while there's some level of leeway we could probably give the system that it's not going to catch everything based on how it operates because there have been cases of it missing stuff (Riker, Shades of Gray) but, come on, this is twice the stupid thing hasn't worked.

Well there could be a very complicated technobabble reason.

Or it could be their biofilter is one of the busted Cerritos systems.

Like Spock said in “The Naked Time”, instruments can only pick up what they’re designed to pick up. Same with the transporter biofilter. The two critters so far likely have something about them that the transporter doesn’t recognize as harmful.

That’s a mouthful of Trek-style bolognium.

That species of shapeshifter was called an allasamorph. The only time in Trek we've seen one outside of this week's episode.

I choose to believe Mariner is not referencing Star Fleet history but that the historical holo sims of things like ENTERPRISE and THE ORIGINAL SERIES as things she's watched.

So they're pop culture references.

I thought most of the Mariner/Boimler stuff was again really not funny. Loud frenetic speech still isn’t making me laugh. Same for Tendi and what’s his name.

But I did finally get an actual laugh out of an episode when the alien finally revealed that there were only two people on his planet. Freeman’s look, and “blow the planet,” was funny.

Episode gets some love also for the Trip Tucker reference which I’m sure most Ent fans got a kick out of. You cannot say this writing staff is not steeped in Trek lore. They’re swimming in it.

Are they though? Galaxy class starships seem to have the structural strength of toilet paper.
The people tend to be, not necessarily the tech....:)

With the caveat, of course, that they don't "do" basic tactical awareness very well. One day someone should systematically tally all the instances in of all of Trek that would have been solved by having a) body cameras on all crew b) security cameras and crew posted at critical areas and c) common sense and use of tools readily available to them.

I thought "Cupid's Errant Arrow" was excellent, the best so far. I love the ways it poked fun at Star Trek generally. The jokes were funny, and it had tons of heart. Really great fun.

There were a lot of great drive-by's. Go back in time to kill the person worse than Hitler?!? The Vancouver did that??? Outstanding!

Maybe the parasite was mostly attracting guys since Brad is probably bi?

(The hill and I are very close. I expect to die on him.)

I took Mariner and Barbara to be going on a date at the end. Because Mariner is the worst friend in the world.

That would be terrible. I hate that kind of shitty cynical humor.

Yeah, they haven't hit the right tone with poor Boimler because he's not obnoxious enough for us to be happy when bad things happen to him.

He's basically hitting the same problem "The Trouble with Edward" did except at least Edward was an evil mad scientist.
