Could this have been the PREDATORS sequel we wanted??

AvP stuff? Nah, no thanks*. Pass.
Predators sequel continuing the Super Predators storyline? Hard pass.

*The only AvP movie I personally want to see is a proper adaptation of the original comic.

That's basically what this movie could setup.

The description there is nothing like the set-up for the original comic. It wasn't on Earth, and there were no marines. That, and it would be using Predators material. That's strike one for me. :)

For a possible sequel...... ;) ;) Away from Earth, no Predators material in that sequel. ;)

That should have been the first AvP movie.. perfect story, perfect action set pieces (what i would have given to see Broken Tusk take on Aliens in close combat as a Veteran when a Noob Predator in the same situation was owned by the Aliens).

The took an element of the comic at the end when the Predator marked the human actress with his Clan symbol but that's it - the less said about that paint by the numbers boring movie the better.

I couldn't agree more. To make things more relatable to the audience, I guess the producers/writers/directors thought it should be more about humans. But it's in the title, Aliens vs Predator. And although there's certainly a big human factor in the original comics, they truly are about AvP.
So, the Predators sequel suggested could work quite nicely to bring the entire AvP story to where it should belong. Set during the Alien movies. The Colonial Marines pop up quite often in those stories aswell, so they can be used as well.

Ofcourse, it can be argued that since this is such a loosely connected franchise, you could skip the entire sequel and just go straight ahead to a movie set 300 years in the future.

Toss it on the pile with Neil Blomkamp's Alien 5 as yet another awesome installment of this franchise that was scrapped in favor of the crap that we did get.
Oh man when I first heard of Blomkamp doing Alien 5 with all the sketches of Ripley and Hicks I was stoked beyond belief... then as always, it gets scrapped by the bigwigs. The disappointment is real.

In the predator series, the only recent films imho worthy of the name is Predators with Adrien Brody. He acted the crap out of it. I watch The Predator and unfortunately, facepalm to infinity.

Personally, my favorite part of Predators was Topher Grace, especially the twist at the end.

The Predator was a weird experience for me. I'm pretty sure that I stayed awake the whole time but there would be scenes that so randomly jumped from one thing to another that I could have sworn that I was nodding off in the theater periodically.

Predators was Topher's best role, imo.

It took me a minute to remember what happened with his characters, but I do now and that was a pretty great twist.
