Not really surprising at all. Warner Brothers has spoken out against VOD early releases as opposed to theatrical releases, which is why Tenet and Wonder Woman are still committed for theatrical releases.
OK, that trailer was not quite what I was expecting, but I really liked it. Having this set in early in Batman's career makes it easier for me to accept a angrier, more violent version of the character, since he's still going to be finding himself.
I love the whole serial killer thriller vibe that they are giving off with it.
Since are now getting more sci-fi and fantasy stuff from WB/DC with characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, and The Flash, I don't mind a more grounded take on Batman. He's one of the easiest major DC characters to do that kind of a take on, since him and the vast majority of his villains and supporting cast don't have powers, and are mostly just regular people with a gimmick.

Good. Might be the best Batman since Adam West.
One thing I forgot to mention before I thought was pretty cool in the trailer was the way the corners of Catwoman's mask stuck up so they looked like the cat ears. It was a nice way to reference to cat ears withought actually being a mask with cat ears on it. The way it just goes down to her nose and top lip is a little odd though.
Okay I'm sold on Battinson! I really dug the trailer, and Pattinson looks like he's playing kind of a batshit crazy Bruce Wayne, and I love it! I literally DID NOT recognize Colin Farrell in that trailer either, and I love the casting of Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
That was darker than I expected. I'm interested.

Setting aside timelines or continuity (Joker being set in the 1980s, differing Alfreds etc), it’s hard not to imagine that WB must be willing to pay Phoenix a massive sum of money to play the role opposite their new Batman. Though I’m not sure he’d do it. But who knows?
The setting and cast other than Phoenix are fairly trivial considerations. I'm sure that he could play an older version of Fleck if required to.
The notion that Bruce's father was a rich, corrupt douchebag is a pretty perfect one. I mean, Bruce is so essentially psychologically twisted that this just piles the icing higher on the cake.
It may be legal for a bubble like a family of millionaires, or just one person willing to spend 4 grand to hire out a movie theatre for just them selves to hire out the venue and watch the flick.

People prove that wrong daily. No matter how stupid I think humans can be..........someone can always take it to the next level.
There's a Garfield comic I frequently think of that goes "It's amazing what people would rather have than money." And honestly, yes, it still blows my mind at each level.
I’m pretty sure I remember an interview with Jon Bon Jovi where he said he rented out a cinema so he and some friends could watch the 1989 Batman film all by themselves
