Looks alright for a young Batfleck. He botched the saying though. It’s, “IM BATMAN!” :)

This is Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

He looks unrecognizable

What I like is that his felt more like a sequel to Matt Reeves first Batman movie. Not his first!

Things just start off running with a serial killer leaving clues and Batman must stop him. There was also references to the "Court of Owls"

The bottom of the card has Court of Owl's Alphabet

"I'm vengeance" sounds like a nod to the iconic Kevin Conroy bit from B:TAS: "I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman!!"

Although I always hated that line, since Batman isn't about vengeance, he's about justice. If it were just vengeance, he would've killed Joe Chill and had done with it. Instead, he risks himself constantly to protect lives, even the bad guys' lives (in most versions).

I can't hear Jeffrey Wright's voice in this and not see Bernard Lowe, so there's a disconnect there.

I'm also not sure that "serial killer film with Batman" was the best narrative route to take for a film that's launching its own universe.

If this were supplanting the DCEU, I'd have a far more negative response to it, but because it'll be existing alongside that particular filmic franchise, I'll make a decision as to whether or not I go see it once we get closer to the release date next year.

People are saying that they get a more Nightwing vibe from him but Nightwing is a lighter character. He wouldn’t have been as rough on that poor fellow.

"S7en but with Batman".

Is one comparison I've heard
I've seen multiple people say that already and I agree.

However, while I like that vibe (and it's a good fit for The Riddler), I'm less keen on the raw, angry Batman we see here. But it's Matt Reeves, so I'll trust him. We'll see...

P.S. The really weird part for me is that, for the last several days, I've been down a rabbit hole of a surreal series of puzzle games called Cube Escape that involves lots intricate codes and puzzles and riddles. And one of the main characters is called Mr. Owl. I know there's no connection here but it's tripping my brain out right now.

After seeing the trailer, I have one major thought that I forgot to post until now. As someone who legitimately really enjoys the Saw film franchise

THE RIDDLER IS NOT FUCKING JIGSAW.

He can be a bit more serious without being some boring "grounded" serial killer. But, why would you want to have comic book elements in this shitty, gritty crime thriller? That would just be silly. :klingon:

Kudos to Reeves for correctly crediting both Bill Finger and Bob Kane for the creation of Batman, as well as his shout-out to the late and great Dwaryne Cooke, and his excellent Batman story ‘Ego’(which serves as one of the main sources of inspiration for the movie).

So everyone is on the path to who they become. We'll see them evolve.

Batman
Riddler
Catwoman
Gordon

Looks like Batman will be working with the cops alot
