I think this episode dissuades the whole "Mariner is a Mary Sue" BS argument.
I didn't really laugh out loud this episode, but it was a lot of fun. Loved the O'Brien reference. Loved the fact that Boimler got his own plaque for his breaking the rules bit. I wasn't sure if Ransom was saying "Cardassia Prime" or a different planet (Cardessia?) at first, but turning on the subtitles showed it was Garak's homeworld. When I saw the title "Temporal Edict," I may have rolled my eyes in expectation of a time travel story. And with the crystals throughout the episode, I figured at some point it just might play a part. Thankfully I was mistaken.
Oh, not a fan of the Ransom/Mariner ship. That brings it down a bit for me.
Overall, I think I give it a 7/10.

Three episode in, I don't think we've been introduced to every crew member.
My least-favorite episode so far but still right down the middle at a 5. Equal amounts of cringe and genuine laughter.

I just mean looking around you just see ensigns or higher. Anyway, I hate to see where the NCO’s sleep with the Ensigns sleeping in the corridor

I enjoyed this one a bit more than the earlier episodes. I have to mentally squint to infer what is probably actually going on beneath the exaggerated parody and writing to appeal to kids. It was nice to see Mariner (legitimately) taken down a peg here by the first officer. She is obviously smart and could be a good officer if not for her very bad attitude and lack of ability to be a team player. I don’t know that Starfleet throws people in the brig for uniform code violations, but they definitely do for disobeying orders. They may be setting up a romance between Beckett Mariner and the first officer. The captain is clearly a pretty bad manager. She has no business commanding her own daughter and letting her daughter’s extended teenage rebellion affect ship operations. I also like the cat doctor’s comment about Mariner resembling a scratching post.
I think they are bleeping swears as a joke. They only do it when T'Ana swears. In the first episode Mariner said bitch, and they didn't bleep that out.

This week’s episode fell flat for me. It had some decent laughs, and once again Mariner gets all the great lines. But the message of the entire episode about rules is muddled, especially for a pseudo-military outfit.
It felt like they were going for some commentary on the stupidity of being overly productive and the workplace pressure to constantly hustle/perform, but it just didn’t land. Too bad, because there is something to be said about having downtime and how it’s beneficial. And how working yourself to death is terrible for your well being.
Of course, like TNG, LOWER DECKS is more office/workplace drama/comedy than space military drama like TOS.

I feel that this episode was an improvement over last weeks. The who thing about workplace efficiency didn't do much, but overall, I liked how it engaged in the campy elements of TOS. Scotty builds extra time into his estimates, being captured at spearpoint, fights to the death, etc. The individual jokes were better as well.
Of course Lower Decks would make the guy who started as an unnamed extra in "Encounter at Farpoint" the most important person in Starfleet history.
