All the Negative people.

I can't stand The Critical Drinker. His entire youtube channel is nothing but bitching about everything. Nothing is good. Literally every single movie or show, he rips to shreds for every little thing.
I don't get his schtick, given his name is he supposed to sound drunk, or is that his actual voice and the way he talks? If the former then if the joke is he's drunk, doesn't that kinda invalidate everything he says because drunkards generally talk crap anyway. Or if the latter.. well he just sounds like a dumbass.
Either way it's awful to listen to. Always used to appear in my recommendations whenever I'd load up the YouTube app, and have since had to specify "don't recommend me this channel"

No the gimmick is if your drunk you are speeking the truth because your inhibitions are down. That or something is so bad it's made you turn to drinking for solace.

I guess, but I don't need to be drunk to know if a movie or TV show is something I don't enjoy.
Anyway, as someone else said he's just a miserable bastard who hates everything

Just because someone makes a show you don't like doesn't mean anything about their IQ. No need to be insulting.

Was basing my judgement also on many interviews with Kurtzman. Wasn't an insult, but an assessment that McMahan is more intelligent than Kurtzman, and brains are used heavily in writing-producing TV. It's like saying it's insulting to say one judges Steph Curry to be a better jump-shooter than Russell Westbrook.

It's like saying it's insulting that Riker assess an crewmember to be lacking the intellectual capacity to be further promoted in engineering.

Alex Kurtzman is a very highly paid producer who takes a public role in promoting his high-profile product. As such, he is subject to scrutiny. That does not mean people should impugn the private side of Alex Kurtzman, or deem him a bad human being. For all we know, he is a marvelous husband, father, and neighbor. But judgements of his professional abilities are, it should go without saying, perfectly in bounds. And I referred to his IQ in terms of how it relates to his professional duties. Just to be clear, I'd guess his IQ is above average compared to the average American.

Now, there certainly are monetized Youtubers who are negative just to be negative, and they have viewers who repeat their unsubtle rants, but I wanted to make a quick philosophical point.

I'm withholding judgement about LDS until I see more episodes, but as to the thread title and the topic of negativity- if, for the sake of argument, one opines that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is crappy, that doesn't necessarily mean that one is being negative- it could be that one is being lucidly sincere, and the real culprit of negativity being propagated into the world could, in fact, be Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

And I referred to his IQ in terms of how it relates to his professional duties.
I don't see how his IQ relates to his job duties. If he puts forth a product that a person happens to agree with then they are going to assume he is above average. If he puts forth a product they disagree with then he will be similarly rated. There is a confirmation bias here.

I don't think they do and I don't think this site represents the majority of the fandom either. Most tend to watch it, enjoy it and go do something else.

Us cool kids come here ready to do battle to protect Trek's honor! :shifty:

Star Trek is genre and “woke” and therefore subject to the anti-woke brigade downvoting it and criticizing it every chance they get. We’re in some good company though with Captain Marvel, Watchmen the TV series), and Star Wars (the movies with a female lead.)
Yup. The fact that they hate it so much is a good sign. As I've said before, I'd be concerned if they actually did like it. Not the other way around. That's generally what I mean whenever I say, "All the right people hated it."

If MechaRandom42 likes a new Star Trek production, that's a red alert sign right there. Pun intended.

Eh in fairness, that’s not actually true?

He does “The Drinker Recommends” on films he likes and thus recommends to his audience.

Also because someone was asking earlier, the drinker title is a joke because he’s Scottish, and Scottish men are drunk all the time(it’s a riff on the stereotype-that isn’t actually true).

Oh I know that. But he does A LOT of bashing of movies. A LOT. And his schtick of the drunken Irishmen gets annoying after awhile IMO. It's one long drunken rant after the other about how every little thing in the movie is the worst.

Didn’t bother to watch. As with most new Trek, there is way too much negativity out there. I’ll just watch the show, form my own opinionand then watch videos on “things you missed” or “Easter eggs”. I enjoy watching Trekculture as it’s more lighthearted and not very negative.

I heard that's true for Irish ;)
