The one thing I found a bit too goofy was the lower decks personnel sleeping in the corridors. I mean I know it's a comedy show, and they probably have at least some sort of glass/polymer/whatever screen they can lower over their bunk to get some privacy/shut out noise and light, but it still seems pretty silly.

Though silly sleeping arrangements aren't going to ruin my enjoyment of the series/
Actually that was quite realistic. This ain't a Galaxy class. The newest of the new would probably get corridors. On some navy subs they set up hammocks in the torpedo and engine rooms. Space is a premium

Definitely a solid 9 for me. Funny, irreverent... yet undeniably Star Trek! And I loved how they are using animation to introduce more species and Worlds! This episode was exactly what I was hoping for. Bring more!

A few wonky bits here and there and I’m not too keen on Mariner being the Captains daughter. But overall I liked it quite a bit.

ranking this an 8.

I voted 8. I expected okay ness.

The comic timing of the show is perfect. But the stuff about the experience of ensigns in the shadow of the heroes could be TrekBBS posts. The writers get it.

8.

I liked it. it was fun. The opening credits are fantastic. Best credits since Voyager.

Funny thing is it's basically what I expected the credits for The Orville to look like, and I was kind of surprised when that show was a little more straightforward.

(Don't mean that as either a good or bad thing. Just a thing.)

Good sequence overall. Theme song doesn't seem too memorable, but that'll come back and bite me in five weeks when I find myself absent-mindedly humming it while I'm doing the dishes.

Is it me (probably) or was there something Galaxy Quest-y about the theme song? I enjoyed it, but can't give it over a generous 8 just because of how much was crammed into 26 minutes. For a first episode of an animated Trek it held up well though.

I thought it was pretty funny, but I'm not sure why they are talking with 21st century lingo?
if you try to eliminate lingo altogether you make the dialogue bland. if you go the hard route and try to develop all new lingo and dialects like The Expanse you end up demanding a lot of your audience. For a comedy animated series they went the easy route, and its understandable.
